I seriously believe that basic Linux should be taught in schools,
correct ... we learn Linux in schools in Egypt ... 2 hours a week

Wow! Just reading some post of last week and read this! That is so cool! ;)
Our school district is stuck with the two typical Billionaires OS's! Last time they tried something else, it was IBM's OS/2... sad!

@newtusmaximus ,

I thought Ubuntu said 18.04 would be the last for 32-bit support.  If that's changed and 16.04 is the last, that means support for 32-bit will end in April 2021, which is still 3.5 years away.  I think any "problem" noticed then will be as inconsequential as Y2k.

Is that on the basis of 32 bit hardware will no longer being used anyway.?? i.e broken, not functional,  as opposed to not supported by  OS.

I  again did a quick search of the LL database for "32 bit" =  circa 50% of the approx 9000 entries were 32bit.  When UBUNTU  ( shortly? ) ditches 32 bit development, that will be a lot of LL users leaving the fold. if their kit can not use 64bit.  They being probably not Linux proficient will be left to their own devices.

This forum is geared to the "newbie", as is LL  hence I hope a way can be found to keep the two together (Jerry? :) )   I have raised this question else where.

This really is awesome fun.  I've "inherited" a few throw-aways, loaded them with Linux Lite 3.6 (modified with some of Ralphy's awesome tools, and donated them to some church schools near me.  When 32-bit loses support, well, maybe there will still be something some of them they can run, but nothing as simple and effortless as LL.  I'm still running an ancient Dell Dimension desktop on LL3.6 32-bit.  It's at least 15 years old and still not ready for the landfill, thanks to Linux Lite!

What are you going to do with it?  retire your older one?, any changce you can use some of the other ram you have??

Not sure yet, may just keep it for beta testing ect.

Will have to check the RAM type but am pretty sure it is DDR3 which is what is in my other three desktops.

It has one stick of 4G Ram installed.

It is a 64 bit system,so I think it will take at least 8G.

Will check the Motherboard Manual.  :)
