Title: replacement for firefox?

hey guys i am back and i am getting very tired of firefox . is Falkon a good replacement? or should i go to  brave?

Hello,

I have used Falkon (known also as Qupzilla) for a while :
- very fast and reactive
- easy to use

But :
- some problem to display some videos (may be due to flash player....)
- problems to fill  some customer's form
- last version was not delivered by Synaptic but it's Ok  now

I also tried Opera and now I use Vivaldi.

Vivaldi :
- is not the lighter in term of memory used
- parameters easy to modify
- built-in ad-blocker

Brave is excellent, and instantly imported all my old Firefox stuff.

Been a Opera guy for a long time, started to get sluggish so i went back to Chrome Beta since its nice and i use sync with Google.
Hehe maybe not the new guy in the browse world that one ;)

Brave has support for vaapi for some time. vaapi is required for gpu (hardware accelerated) video decoding and I think this is very important for a linux web browser. Because of this, I migrated from chrome to brave some time ago.

But in the recent 88 version of google chrome, vaapi is supported now.

Even, google chrome now (finally) supports for vaapi, brave has some advantages over chrome for me:
* Mobile Brave browser (android, don't know about ios) has built-in ad blocker.
* Android Brave has navigation buttons at the bottom, unlike chrome. This is very important for me.
Note: Brave has sync features between web and mobile, just like chrome.

Note: I abandoned Firefox very long time ago because its slowness compared to chrome. Currently, it's still the same. Chromium based browsers are still faster than Firefox according to my everyday use testings.

Note: My priority is syncing between devices so Falkon is not an option for me. Moreover, chromium based browsers are good at new web technologies (since Google defines them nowadays), Falcon will probably follow new techs a little (maybe more) behind.

I have moved to vivaldi. Still kinda like firefox but at least they don't want to censor the net.

+1 for Brave. It's better and faster than even "un-Googled Chromium" and blocks all kinds of unwanted bloat, flash, and ads.

I "was" a fan of Chromium, but then moved to Firefox. Recently learned of Waterfox and I am quite fond of it. Quite fast, supports Firefox addons, and can be hardened fairly easily pretty much how you can Firefox. By default, it seems to be pretty decent compared to Firefox. I hate how pretty much every browser that can render pages decently uses so much RAM. I mean jeez, does a browser really need a GB of RAM for a few webpages? Waterfox seems to be a little better on RAM compared to Firefox and a lot better on RAM compared to Chromium and Falkon apparently (just tried Falkon a few minutes ago).

Vivaldi is my main general purpose browser bcos it has blocking built in.
For corporate use, its firefox... V 86 and 87 are better with ram

I only started using Linux (LL) a few days ago, so this post is delayed.

I don't use Chrome browser because of privacy concerns; Firefox is said to be far better in this respect.

Ok, I'll add my two cents then... I was pushing for Palemoon, until a few updates ago when it became really laggy on the Youtube website (Firefox based versus Google?... Nah, a company would not cripple the competitors, that would be politically incorrect. *wink wink* ;)
Anyways, I too am trying to find a LOW-RESSOURCE (yes, caps) replacement. Its crucial to save 2GB RAM machines. 32 bits, even better.
I will report the progress of my Quest here.

I'll go hug a tree now... ;)

Vivaldi is the most functional
+ a huge number of settings, work with Chrome extensions.
-  the number of buttons and funtions can confuse inexperienced users.

Opera - for those who need a VPN
+ built-in VPN, ad blocker, handy sidebar.
- few extensions, useless built-in crypto wallet.

And for a fully open-source alternative, there's always Seamonkey!


Seamonkey does everything that both Firefox and Thunderbird do, yet with thousands fewer lines of code than Firefox by itself. It's a superb choice for those looking to keep the Lite in Linux Lite.

Their true heir of the venerable Netscape Internet Suite, Seamonkey does it all and many Firefox extensions work with Seamonkey as well.


It can be added to Linux Lite by means of the Ubuntuzilla PPA.

I think Firefox is one of the best but you can try:

    Ungoogled Chromium

    Chromium

    Librefox (Firefox fork)

    Falkon by KDE

Hi!

Over the years, I tested all browsers listed here, in this thread.
Brave and Vivaldi, seem to be very good alternatives.
