Sun has been acquired by Oracle, owned by Larry Ellison, also called the devil of Silicon Valley - for a good reason considering how he treats his employees, customers, and Linux/RedHat.

Didn't Microsoft purchase Sun Microsystems, which own half of all Unix/Linux patents? That might explain why Microsoft loves Linux.  I think somewhere along the way they also filed claims that open source software infringed their own software patent...
64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung netbook) installed in Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work

Don't forget this is MS, there will be a hidden agenda here unfavorable to linux in the future.

I agree a leopard never changes its spots. I'm a little confused as in how Microsoft can legally do this. They can use open source and sell their OS? Can they even use the word Bash? hmmm

Remember Netscape? I wonder how many forgot about the antitrust scandals back in the day?

Microsoft certainly does fund towards Linux from the evidence I see. However, they are taking ideas and putting into their Windows OS, to make it appear like they "love" Linux and also to claim that their idea is original. Their own website servers run Linux. That in itself says something.

Lets say Microsoft incorporated Linux ideas and never funded Linux, EVER. How would that look to the press and to the Linux community as a whole? It would look very bad for them to say the least. Hadn't they not have any public pressure on them at all by consumers or the press, they probably wouldn't give a damn dime to the Linux foundation.

I couldn't agree more Microsoft only does things that benefit them in my opinion.

Ironically (given Microsoft's history) isn't that just the definition of competition though?

I've always thought it strange that Microsoft uses the below image as the default wallpaper for Windows 10 because, to me, it looks like they just opened the door on someone they were holding in solitary confinement.  I would think even they would want to avoid that subliminal message.

Apparently aimed at Nerdy Types
I quote from the comments:

"Linux users claiming for years that a command line is such an easy way to install software has for years been flamed by m$ fanboys, and now, that windows is going to come out with it, you are passing it asking like it's positive... I figure it's the same principal as when the iPhone switched from glass to plastic screens..."

Can't agree more...

So they are still attacking GNU/Linux with patent bullcrap and other stuff?

But at the same time, they used Linux for their own gain? Isn't that hypocritical?

And everyone knows Microsoft hates Linux.
And now this "Microsoft <3 Linux"... Yeah, right....

And Microsoft attacks GNU/Linux with patents, yet again, they are taking from GNU/Linux for their own gain. Isn't that hypocritical too? They use Linux, while they're attacking it with lawsuits and patents... mmhmm...

Glad I don't have to deal with this stupid company anymore. Even my parents run GNU/Linux.

No Windows computers in our homes.

Microsoft just wants a piece of that pie. It's not like they are doing it for the community. They are doing it for themselves.

Their own systems sucks, and they can't make a good software at all, so they had to take something from Linux, haha.

Where's their Anti-Linux tune? Gone of course. They realized they have to take a piece of it to benefit THEM.
