8) Justing mentioning it as an interesting topic of discussion. I don't think I can remember a time when Mint wasn't in the #1 slot. I supposed the times are changing.
-
It's a putsch!!! ;)
Indeed a rare occasion. I was impressed by Manjaro but stopped using it since used too much ressources.
They stopped making the 32 bits version also (last was 17.0.6).
Was the best Arch distro I tried though.
Cheers!

Not sure I believe it.

Captin'! It is... indeed true :

Must be true,, never any "Fake News" :P ;)

@torreydale is just trying to build a wall... a BIG WALL. But he wants the Mexican goverment to pay. ;)
(Just joking Torrey! ;) )

It's just page hits at D-watch.
I think the big 4 order of Linux OSs in actual use is probably still the same.
Debian
Ubuntu *counting all the flavors
Red Hat *RHEL & Fedora
Free BSD *Slackware
Goes down pretty fast after that, the rest being mostly derivatives of one or more of the above.
I could be wrong. Ubuntu may be #1 overall, but not even close on servers. That would Debian, with a number still actually growing.

I'm not saying I didn't believe the site had it that way on their list. I just don't believe it reflects actual clicks by actual people.
-
It's all a matter of opinion across the web.
I was impressed by Manjaro but stopped using it since used too much ressources.
Right.
I went by something like this when I was looking for my first Linux OS...
https://fossbytes.com/best-lightweight-linux-distros/
If I didn't mind using a resource hog for an operating system, I wouldn't have nuked windows 10 and installed Linux Lite.
-
When you have 11 versions of your OS, you better be No.1! And by versions I mean DE. Combined arch's would be double that. The collective clicks alone...
-
Manjaro is not my favorite Arch distro. But I want to give credit to Manjaro for one thing. They were once heavily (HEAVILY!) criticized for not keeping up to date with security patches. That they cleaned up. If I remember (it's a few years ago) a whole new team took over the distro. Might be wrong on that. But always fun to see a shakeup in the 'big 4'. Real or just on paper.
-
Debian is the clear "core/backbone" winner having Ubuntu flavors using it and having spot 2-3-4 (currently).
I don't see charts on this though. Would be Interesting to have a "core" and a "DE" chart on DistroWatch ;)
Always fun to see the familly tree or periodic table on the subject :D :
https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=family-tree
Cheers!
-
Wonder where we would rank for the distros that offer one DE and soon to be one arch (x64)?
-
:) Loved the 'periodic table' representation.
Take a look at this, a different representation, not sure how "refreshed" it is:

-
That chart is below the periodic table on the Distrowatch page. ;)

Uh, mexican here, just to confirm I'm not paying for any wall. (We'll climb it anyways ;D )

Anyone check DistroWatch today? (Friday May 11). It was Manjaro by a nose, now it's Manjaro by 2 lengths. Three weeks (minus a few days) until the official Linux Lite 4.0 release. I'm good.

@Ottawagrant
Manjaro vs. Mint, just checked it now for a bit of fun:
https://imgur.com/a/VRm1lhV (https://imgur.com/a/VRm1lhV)
It seems Manjaro has been up there in first place for the last 6 months.
Apart from their large number of DEs, I have to say they do have an excellent forum community and the German trait of paying great attention to detail shines through. Of course, they have the huge advantage of having the expertise of the Arch community to draw upon too ...
That said, LL has the edge - at least for me 8)
-
While on the subject of Manjaro, it's interesting to note the RAM usage (given they are both Xfce DEs)
when the laptop in setup 1 (see signature below) is idling: - Linux Lite 3.8 ............. 345MB
- Manjaro-xfce 17.1.9 .....550MB
This was noted when I had an LL/Manjaro dual-boot setup.
-
@Jerry ,
Wonder where we would rank for the distros that offer one DE and soon to be one arch (x64)?
And 5.5 years old or younger?

Linux Lite from arch base ?
Which DE will it have ?
My first try with arch base was not so good but I was still very happy to have learn a little new things to me with Linux.
Will there be a forum section for it ?
If you decide to make a project based learning section, then I would also like to join in that section and the projects.
-
@bitsnpcs arch is short for architecture, as in either 32 or 64bit.
-
@Jerry I get it now :-[

And now MX Linux is #1. Its hits are nearly 2x as many as Linux Mint and nearly 3x as much as Ubuntu. I'm not buying it. Something is fishy. The Distrowatch folks did an article on this as an explanation when Manjaro was #1. Wish I could find that article.
-
The amount of times I have downloaded a Linux Lite ISO...... Linux Lite should be number 1 :)
.................
Manjaro is a great Distro but as a rolling release the upgrades always seem to break it :o
-
I don't take Distrowatch rankings very seriously, but if MX is on top, it certainly deserves to be! It has a lot in common with Linux Lite, like the very cool newbie tools, the masterfully modified Xfce desktop, an MX USB maker that does what Systemback used to do in Linux Lite (and by the way I added systemback to LL 4.4), and a great forum. Another advantage is the Debian Stable base, so updates are probably a lot less likely to cause problems.
The installer is frustrating to a newbie, perhaps, certainly to a technophobic user like me who felt incredibly brave just trying out Linux for the first time on a Live DVD! It's Debian after all... but the installer is a lot easier now than it was only last version, but still scary compared with Ubuntu's awesome Ubiquity installer.
I actually use both distros. But Linux Lite is the one I most often install for newcomers to Linux, since I find it unquestionably best for newbies.
-
Distro watch hits are not actual distro users for specific distros. Rankings do not even reflect actual popularity, just current interest and for the most part just passing interest... kind of an existentialist ranking system. Combined together Debian and Ubuntu will continue into the forseeable future to have the most actual users. What matters about distro watch is innovation announcements. It gives developers a chance to make users aware of their new creations.
@Artim I've never tried MX but I'm assuming it's using a mdified Debian installer. Honestly the most convenient installer I've ever used is the Debian net-install ISO. Once you figure it out you'll wonder why one would ever want full system ISO installers.

-
Yes, a modified Debian installer. I did a Debian Netinstall once too and it was fast and effortless, but still a lot more intimidating to me than the Ubu-based .iso installers. I guess they only work on Ubu-based distros. Although Manjero's looks a lot like it.
-
Distrowatch is based on clicks within their site. I just don't see people organically clicking twice as much as Mint or three times as much as Ubuntu for MX. I don't recall it ever really being in the top 5 and now it all of a sudden leaps giants like Mint and Ubuntu.

Manjaro installs with the 4.19.49 kernel which I left alone this time.
Linux Lite 4.4 64 bit. Is Faster than Manjaro KDE 64 bit. download size was 2.1 GB.
The new Manjaro is based off Ubuntu 18.04, Plasma desktop it has two different
Office Programs one is Linux the other is Microsoft office. Comes with the Default
Web Browser Firefox . It also has A program from Open SUSE. Manjaro is a very
Heavy Program the full program. Or can be installed as a minimal OS - Office - File system - Web Browser
:o It is still an ARCH Distro. ::) :-\ Linux Lite 8) :)
