Saw a YouTube video from this guy (Puppy Linux) who I subscribe to.

Was surfing Distro Watch (http://www.distrowatch.com), looking for a new distro to try out. Gave it a run in Virtualbox for a month or so, then made the plunge because Debian 7.6 XFCE wasn't fulfilling my needs. Haven't looked back since (and that's saying something, since I've been a distro hopper since finding Linux).  ;D

Think I had stumbled accidentally on Spatry's youtube site late last year, then watched a few of his videos -- one of which was for LL -- and decided to test it out based on his review.  I'm still here, so obviously I liked what I saw.

Hello, All!

I think Spatry brought me here around the first of the year, also - at least as closely as I can remember...

I found Linux Lite 2.0 listed in a random internet article about the 6 best distros for netbooks.

Searched around for how to remove some of the bloat from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as I wasn't too impressed with it, LL was in the search results and here I am :)

Had been using PuupyLinux on a USB stick for  resolving computer problems and testing old laptops , also online banking security.
Had tried Puppy full install but limited because of PET sfs requirements.
Came across LL article in business press ( April 2014- lost reference )  that suggested LL 1.06 was a simple changeover option for XP .  Author gave glowing report.

Had tried Mint but too resource hungry for older spec laptops.

Convertee to LL ever since.  Feel that there is a real opportunity to convert business users ( road warriors) to to LL  on their laptops for security reasons !!  encrypting HDD, anti virus, WIFI security etc.

Also the Silver Surfers with older hardware and limited budgets.

I always have partitions to test distro's so I am able to choose the best free software for day to day use.  http://distrowatch.com/

LL2 was better in ways than Xubuntu14.04 and Mint 17. (And I like this forum.)

LL2 reminds me of when I had WattOS in this pc some time ago, but I like Xfce better than
barebone Lxde and/or tiny better than MATE which is also slower.
But let's be honest... very nice to use.
And yes, my wife uses Puppy on an old Acer instead of Windows XP now..
I have tried it from time to time, but it is not enough for me.
But unbelievebly good for the room it takes. And safe on disk or pendrive.

(LL has very little bugs. That was certainly a reason too. For instance the very good
Xubuntu 12.04, which I still have on the machine, had for a year all kinds of bugs.
With continued updating that dissappeared. )

I keep a special place in the heart for PCLinuxOS or PCLOS (now the MATE-
version on a partition.) It was my first 'brand' some ten years back.
It has had its ups and downs, but is very good now.
Let me say: I keep playing around and can do my work this way as long as they let us.  :)
And it is the only more of less 'safe' way to go on computers I think.

distrowatch.  LL wasn't my first choice.  LM (linux mint) XFCE was, but the wifi didn't work.  Same with Fedora XFCE.  A few distros were dated.  I went down the list in distrowatch and landed on LL.  Surprised it was so low.

I was using Kubuntu on a desktop as my first Linux OS. After a couple months I decided my 7 year old laptop needed to be switched from Windows to Linux. KDE was too heavy and tried Ubuntu but didn't like Unity. Searched Distrowatch for Debian/Ubuntu based distros and found LL among a few others. Played with all of them for a few weeks and found LL to be a great OS for this particular laptop. All the hardware worked and it was fast like when I first bought it. I've been using LL to convert friends and family to Linux ever since.

I had Ubuntu 12.04 LTS but I changed to Linux Lite 1.0.8 after finding it at DistroWatch. I wanted an Ubuntu-based distro for simplicity but with a lightweight window manager. I recently installed Linux Lite 2.0 because of a bug I suppose, I encountered when tried to login. It was keeping me at the login screen, something like a loop, even if the password was correct.

I found a solution for that: I changed the login manager from LightDM to GDM

Keep up the good work! :D

P.S.: Are there any Linux Lite specific repositories? I think I read something at the manual but I'm not sure.

Hi Sonic
The GDM information looks good, why not move it to a more appropriate section so it won't get overlooked?

I like simple and fast , cheers.  :D

I found a solution for that: I changed the login manager from LightDM to GDM

  • Go to a text terminal using Alt-Ctrl-F1
  • Stop LightDM with sudo stop lightdm
  • Start GDM with sudo start gdm
  • Run sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm to set the default display manager for gdm
  • Edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager and set it to /usr/sbin/gdm if you can't run the above
  • Restart your computer and login.

Keep up the good work! :D

P.S.: Are there any Linux Lite specific repositories? I think I read something at the manual but I'm not sure.
I tried it for my occasionally jumping icons, but it did not help. But no problem; it works!  :)

I found out about Linux Lite through Spatry / The Linux Distro Community (Long time Spatry subscriber, January 2012). I was originally part of the Linux Distro Community since April 2012. Despite the fact that Linux Lite was starting development in October 2012, I did not find out about Linux Lite until I saw a video Spatry released about it in Mid-2013 (May, June or July. Some time around that). When I heard Valtam developed it, I was astonished. Sure enough when I went on the Linux Distro Community Forums, I found some old threads about Linux Lite dating back to November started by Valtam. Kinda a long story about just discovering the distro. Lol.

From searching. I own antique gear and am always on the lookout for a cd sized distro. This fit the bill very nicely, Thank you.
This just kinda fell into my lap.

I always go by by hands on experience. I do not pay, (a lot of) , attention to what other people say.  I always reserve judgment till I have experienced something 1st hand.
Mom always told me. "How will know it till you try it? Try it once! That way you can say if you like it or not!"

Was an XP user forever...that being said...used it mainly to play cash on line poker.  Started with Hold'em and switched to PLO. Then the big  "no more XP support" announcement came.  Did a Google search and found Ubuntu 14.04. Tried it out...didn't like it very much. Did another search and found Mint 17,  really liked that one and was dual booting with XP until the hdd went on my HP. :(
Shortly after that a friend gave me an old rebuilt Dell Dimension 2400 with a fresh XP install. It's too small for a full distro and a dual boot. Found Lubuntu and used that with a dual boot...found it much too unstable and throughly detest pcmanfm. Started another search trying to find a distro without pcmanfm as the file manager >:(  . Found LL2 and am quite satiated. LL2 has all one could want and need, it's lightweight, easy to use, and pairs well as a dual boot in a baby box. If for some reason the XP messes up, will have no problem using LL2 as a stand alone.  Good chance will be giving this Dell to my grandson to use, after repairing the HP ;)
Thanks

Having been a Linux user since 2009 i have tried most of the big ones out, Ubuntu, Mint, Mandriva, Puppy, Arch etc.
I fully moved over to Linux from day one as you got to be in it to win it!
I came across Linulite 2.0 while watching Youtube and thought i would give it a go,,,,WOW i know it's Ubuntu Debian based but it gets thing so right!
I have now installed it on my desktop and lappy as i am so impressed, i have installed extra software repositories and i couldn't be happier.
A huge thumbs up from me.

Spatry did it for me too. I did try a few other distros as well, but I found LL the best for me and for my grandchildren's computer as well (both are older XP machines).

I must say that I love using LL! Sometimes I just turn the computer one for no reason except to look at my new OS and fiddle around with the nobs without actually leaving the garage - I guess it would be the same feeling if I had bought a '68 Mustang :)

More than a year ago I've decided to try linux again after several failed attempts using puppy linux and ubuntu. i found it somewhere on the internet, probably because of google i can't remember. It's easy to use, fast and light. Now I have 64 bit and 32 bit Linux Lite installed on my laptop. I'm not going back to windows crap.

That is coincidence. I have played around a bit with an old Pup Precise 5.4.3 yesterday and today. Just for fun. A lot of function for such tiny software.

Ha ha ha. Pretty much small but still packed with a lot of cool stuffs. No hassle just boot right on your usb stick. Back then I'm sick of WINDOWS crap, like viruses, and malwares, updates, very slow boot time, slow response, lag, fragment stuff, and tricky Installing of softwares like Photoshop, After effects,Sony Vegas,AutoCaD,pretty much any software you can think of, and even games all of them are PIRATED. I just don't have the money cause I'm still a student and I live in a third world country. I've tried puppy linux and till then i stopped being a software pirate, if that's what you call it. In GNU/LINUX almost every software available is free(free as in freedom not free as free beer - RMS) fast, stable and, it just works like magic.Thanks. -Mark

I read a review in Linux Format Magazine (the one that is quoted on the LL homepage) and given that they are usually quite hard to please their opinion made it worth a look. I nearly didn't bother but I did and that was one of the better decisions I have made.

I started with PCLinuxOS 2006. on that forum for a while, then tried Phoenix lite on the laptop, Was running very well. Win xp was slow as hell as usual and Phoenix lite was beating it on boot up every time. Then Valtam came out with LL and I tried the Live cd and loved it. A few months later when LL 1.06 came out I installed on the laptop and it was great. Skipped LL 1.08 on the laptop and went to Beryl once it was finished. Love it... Great replacement for Win XP I rarely go into it now. Have Beryl on my main pc as well with dual 32 bit processors. Thinking about putting it on the newer desktop with quad core. I recommend it to everyone that asks.

I have 3 of my friends also using it/trying it out.

I had tried 2 or 3 different Linux distros over the last 2 or 3 years.  I didn't like any of them as 1) I wasn't gifted with a whole lot of brains and 2) there was a pretty big learning curve for most of the distros (or...see 1) ).  I had gone back to Win7 and was enjoying it (and still have it on my laptop) when someone who has been trying to convert me for years suggested LL.  I checked out the site, d/l'ed it and here I am.  I still have Win7 on an SSD but that will be coming off and replaced by a back up of LL as soon as I can figure out how to back it up.

I was looking for a lightweight DE that wasn't Xubuntu or Lubuntu.

I used distrowatch.org and found Linux Lite and was also recommended it by people at linuxquestion.org and decided to give it a try.

Really like it. Now just trying to get 'aero snap' or a similar feature to work.

I had Windows XP and like many was looking to move on.  I had read in magazines of Linux and thought I’d try this.  I started with Gnome/Ubuntu 11 and then 12 for about a year on a dual boot.  At first I was amazed at being able to install though found it difficult to add the printer and skype.  Then found that Gnome / Ubuntu  was just getting bigger and bigger taking longer to load and this reminded me of Windows.  I was looking for something smaller / quicker so looked on the net and in youtube for alternative distro’s.  I looked at Xububtu, Kububtu and also Mint.  These were fine but not quite what I was seeking.  Then I came across Linux Lite tried it and was very impressed.  Despite being based on Ubuntu 14 it was simpler to operate and to install Skype and my printer.  It really is terrific using this replacing an old ex Windows XP machine.  Thanks for such a great product.

Started using Windows at Work with Windows 2.1.
Over many years I have flirted with Linux on and off, but I was never really comfortable with it.

Early this year something peaked my interest again, I played around with Zorin(I really liked that), Linux Mint(Good, But heavy), CentOS & Fedora(To much hardwork)
Then whilst looking at some YouTube Videos I came across Linux Lite, I think a "Puppyworld Video"
I gave it a go, have it on 2 PC's and a Laptop, I'm still here now, and it's working out great for me.

My only issue at present,
Integrated WiFi(RTL8188CE)on an HP Laptop, very slow and intermittent connection.
Googling shows I'm not alone with this RTL8188CE issue.
