My local bank was still using windows xp some months back when i was last there. Everytime i  logged in to my account from their computers they would send me a notification about upgrading my OS for security reasons.

The irony

Usually the workstations that are used in a bank are tied to a server, probably the same server that you access for online banking, but im not sure on that one. Usually they are seperated. So technically as long as the workstations in the bank are on different subnets than external networks they are safe. And since the servers are the intermediary, the server dictates security policy- which is why you get those notifications.  I hope that kinda clears that up... ???

I have seen many clients at work using WinXP, usually they are running proprietary software that is not compatible with later versions of Windoze.
Typically if the computer is part of a medical or dental system, they are custom versions of WindozeXP that have security updates automatically installed due to liability issues.
(such as data theft and the sort) Some medical/dental softwareware requires specific print drivers that have to be installed in a custom fashion, for example TWAIN drivers, combine that with WinXP
and it is a totally different scenario than a typical home/office computer. I have several clients that run custom dental SW that requires XP and TWAIN drivers, and they are completely fire-walled or
not connected to the external network. That is common practice, but yeah you never know.... LOL

Everyone in my one horse town uses Windows on their jobs.

Doctors, City Hall, you name it.

I gave up worrying about someone stealing my identity a long time ago. They are welcome to it.

Nice thing about them using windows. I end up with their discarded equipment.

A few months ago, I saw a You Tube video, probably Steve Holmes under one of his aliases of Windows Help Guy, that reported the Windows XP version for businesses (may not be Windows XP Pro) had a longer support life than the one for home use.

Was at the Dentist yesterday for a six month check.

While I was in the chair the dentist booted up his computer to get my dental records.

It was running Windows XP .

How many organisations are still running obsolete operating systems........With your personal data on them.  :o :o :o
