Title: Apple
Post by: Jocklad on December 05, 2016, 09:54:12 AM
Just having a browse on Apple laptops.

http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?afid=p238%7CsRca7lb0G-dc_mtid_187079nc38483_pcrid_64626336601_&cid=aos-uk-kwgo-pla-mac-slid--product-MLH12B/A-UK (http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?afid=p238%7CsRca7lb0G-dc_mtid_187079nc38483_pcrid_64626336601_&cid=aos-uk-kwgo-pla-mac-slid--product-MLH12B/A-UK)

Nearly 2000.00 pounds for a laptop.

Do people actually buy these.....?.

The Internet wouldn't be what it is today if our only choice was to buy Apple products.

I understand that, currently, if you're having to do very heavy video editing, they are the way to go.  But the cost of their products hinder entry for those of lower financial means into the world of information accorded on the Internet.  Thank goodness for eBay and Linux.  For $60, I can get someone a very good desktop computing experience.  For about $150, I can get them a very good laptop computing experience.  If either devices are broken or stolen, there are fewer tears than when a $2500 laptop is dropped or stolen.

The bottom line is, in 2016, a laptop should not cost $2500.

Years ago I dabbled in building Hackintoshs, some of them outperformed the brand for 100's less.

Quote Torreydale: Thank goodness for eBay and Linux.

Well said Torreydale.

I currently have four desktops none of which cost more than £50.

There are plenty of computer bargains out there if you shop about.

I would not spend £2000 on a computer if I had a goldmine in my butt.

Free dumpster box I showed in my motorcycle shop in another thread  (https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-topic/linux-lite-at-your-place-3555/)is what I am posting from now.

Code: [Select]
$ inxi -M
Machine:   System: GATEWAY product: W3507 v: 500
           Mobo: Intel model: D102GGC2 v: AAD70214-201
           Bios: Intel v: GC11020M.15A.2010.2006.0817.0956 date: 08/17/2006

But I have always been lucky when it comes to finding free or cheap computer gear. But if you add up all my computer gear.
Money is being spent anyways.

2500 bucks in one drop. I buy motorcycles (http://www.imagebam.com/image/3d2c16518859685) with that money.
Priorities kick in, you know.

But I can understand someone who has other priorities different than mine and would fork out thousands for electronic gear. To each their own march to a different drummer.  8)

I wouldn't touch one of the new mac books.  Who wants to have to carry around a bunch of dongles (much less PAY for them) just to be able to use things like external drives, USB sticks, or micro-sd cards?

Of course I could get my doctor off my back if I did buy one.  He's been getting on me to lose some weight, so I COULD visit jolly Old England, buy one of those Apples, and tell him I just lost 2000 Pounds! :D

I dont own a mac bit I do maintain a macbook pro for an elderly friend.

I recently upgraded his machine from El-Capitan to Sierra.

Think it was about a 5G download.

There is no ethernet port on these machines, internet connection is wireless only.

He swears by his Mac....................................And sometimes at it
