Watching the news & keeping you guys in our thoughts & prayers
I guess it's gonna be a while until things return to normality

Take care of yourselves

64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung netbook) installed in Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work

Wow. This is a timely reminder of what some people in Florida are grappling with at a time when many of us who live elsewhere are dealing with much more trivial things.  It is literally a day to day survival for @ralphy , @RandomBoy , @bayoubooger and others who have been in the path of the hurricanes. Thinking of you & praying for you. Can't begin to imagine what you are going through. Keep us updated if and when you can.
Using Linux Lite for everything now. I put it on my desktop and my laptop. Woohoo!

I wonder if there are others here in the Forums who are just emerging from the chaos and bewilderment of Hurricane Irma

I just got power restored. My mother's home is 4 blocks from me and I still have her running off of a generator, power hasn't reach her. As of the day before yesterday, The Keys (in Florida) was still inaccessible past "Isla Morada", not sure if that has changed. Water is certainly not drinkable (brown in color).

Sorry for seeming stupid and preferring Linux - I just don't know any better.

We call 'em Cyclones here in Australia, very devastating weather events, even the category 1's (weakest) are not to be taken lightly.
I have seen similar comradery here after a region has been basically wiped from the map by one of these storms, people from all over the country & even people from other countries volunteering their time, expertise, knowledge and money to help with the long and usually painful recovery process.
The way strangers come together to help each other out in times like that I think is absolutely awesome, if only people could get on like that all the time, unfortunately it usually takes something like a major disaster to make that happen...

Best wishes to anyone affected by Irma's destruction.

I have no idea what i would be like to experience such a disaster. I live in the most southern part of The Netherlands and we don get this kind of weather over here. I been in the dutch navy for 5 years and experienced some serious weather on the oceans, but thats notting to what you guys are going through at the moment. My thoughts are with you and i hope that you will be back to normal life very soon.
Life on earth is expensive but it does include a free trip around the sun.

I'm not complaining or anything and we feel for you guys down south. Hope everything will go well from now on...
I just wanted to mention that strange weather seems to be happening all over, really strange stuff I've never seen.

We live near the Vermont North Border and had some major flooding in the region last spring, worst I've seen.
Fortunately, we are on higher grounds here.
And yesterday, I was doing some small chores in the yard and I was sweating like crazy...thats when I notice something was off...
for most of the day we had NO wind.
I mean freakingly weird no wind for our parts. Not a tree leaf was moving, even the balloons from the car dealer barely stirred.

Anyways, enough about this global warming stuff from me... best of luck guys!

Indeed @bayoubooger

We are able to burn much of our debris safely but there's some stuff that isn't safe to burn... the skies here are actually hazy just from all the fallen trees and branches being gathered and burned.  Marshmellow time!

Now come the mosquitoes and unfortunately, sickness from kids playing in contaminated water flooding the roads still.  It's gonna be a long recovery for Texas and Florida...

Now keeping an eye on Jose, Maria, and Lee behind Irma...

Same here in Texas, everything else goes out the window and we all just live day to day. Politics and the rest of the garbage is not near as deep as the garbage to be hauled away that was our homes...
changed from Windows 10 to a REAL OS

Definitely terrifying to say the least.  A lot of people lost everything, some of us only a little.  But one amazing good thing to come out of disasters like Irma and Harvey is a good look in the mirror.  They bring out the best - and the worst - in people, showing us who we really are.

I shared a meal today with one of the linemen who came down here to Florida from Tennessee to help us get our power back.  He had worked 40 hours in just two days - and a lot of awesome wonderful people have been doing that since it was safe to come down here.

We camped indoors, cooked outside over a wood fire, sang songs, told stories, did laundry in collected rainwater, and did a whole bunch of cleaning up for 5 days after the storm passed us before our electricity and Internet were restored.  No school (yay!), but also no work, so money is super tight now.  But we learned to share, to give even though we were needy ourselves, and to be very grateful for life, for family, and soooooo many things that we usually take for granted!

Nearby rivers are still rising over roads as storm water drains from residential areas, and weakened trees are still leaning and threatening to topple.  Chainsaws are running like crazy all over the state of Florida.  ;D   But Irma has brought people together like nothing else could have.

Gratitude and love to first responders, military troops, and countless others who have come from very far away to work like crazy for a bunch of strangers in need.
