First, add the PPA:

Open a terminal window [CTRL-ALT-T] and enter the following:

Enter the sudo password, and you should see this:

Press [ENTER] to continue or ctrl-c to cancel adding it

Press ENTER to add the PPA. After it is added, enter the following text:

Code: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install blueman pavucontrol pulseaudio-module-bluetooth -y
If you get any messages (you shouldn't) saying these are already installed, they can be ignored.

If your Bluetooth adapter is not Broadcom-based, you may reboot now.


My comment now. My bluetooth adapter is not broadcom so all I needed was a reboot.
Then open Bluetooth-Manager (Blueman) and use sink on right click menu to add the speaker (Soundmine)
to pulse audio controls. I now have working sound on my Skullcandy Soundmine external speaker.
There is no slider control to move in pulse audio for Soundmine. Just a bar



So issue with Skullcandy Soundmine with external usb 4.0 dongle is considered solved by me.
This I bet is the only Ubuntu 14.04 Skullcandy Soundmine hit on the net I bet.
So I expect a lot of hits on this thread.

Edit: Volume controls added in pulse audio after I ran setup in Blueman.

Edit2: Works good also on my Dell e5500 laptop with this bluetooth dongle

Thanks for the pointer. No. I missed that. But my search was screwed from the git go using "skullcandy soudmine" in the search box. Thanks again. I will give it a go later on.

May be of use - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1221995 seems it could be fussy with kernel choice.

Will give it a boot change to a different kernel. Just not on this laptop to check. Because

One Idea I am pondering. I recieved a mini cd disk with the 4.0 bluetooth dongles for the Windows drivers.
Maybe NDIS-GTK (loading windows .inf file) and blacklisting btusb driver may be a experiment worth trying out later on.

No hurry on my end for this yet. Being cautious before proceeding too fast on this.
I'd like to see a linux fix. Instead of using the cd and windows driver.
That kinda defeats the purpose of this thread. But I may try the cd route just to see if it works.
Then if it does. Uninstall the Windows .inf file in NDIS-GTK. Then un-blacklist  the btusb driver.
To bring everything back to stock.

This is mostly just a self learning exercise for this biker.

asyou can see.btusb driver is loading OK for the bluetooth dongle. That does not mean how ever this
unit is linux friendly.

What I have plugged in my usb port

Mini USB 2.0 Bluetooth 4.0 CSR4.0 +EDR Dongle Adapter for PC WIN 8 7 XP VISTA A+


I also have one of these
which I tried first. But got the same errors as the above. So I figured I would try bluetooth 4.0 instead. Hoping a newer unit might rectify the problem. But I guess not. This is not Linux-Lite specific because Mint 17 Mate gives the same errors with the cheaper bluetooth dongle. I have not tried the Bluetooth 4.0 adapter yet in Mint 17. But I expect the same results. Since both are based on Ubuntu 14.04.

Works on my chromebook so not a hardware problem.  Unfortunstely  my Linux-Lite laptops I have to use a external usb/bluetooth dongle adapter. My Chromebook has a internal bluetooth card.

This is just a starter post so feel no need to reply. I have a feeling my problem is the bluetooth sending unit that uses a usb port for the interface. I will supply screenshots later on to show what errors out and what graphic errors say.


Jerry knows I am not afeared of command line or command syntax. I am starting this thread using my Chromebook because I 1st wished to make sure the speaker worked before starting this thread. Also starting this thread because the speaker unit is so new. No Linux documentation exists for it. I am not going to include the ChromeOS audio stream dump as it is miles long, and probably not relevant anyways.

I will respond at a later date my findings using Linux-Lite using this Skullcandy Soundmine Bluetooth speaker with Blueman and Bluez


Long story short without screen shots. Blueman sees the soundmine speaker. Pairs OK. But does not connect completely anyways. So no sound from it.
That is why I will include step by step screenshots with this thread when I am on my Linux Lite box.
Probably the wheeled on a portable table  Dell 755 wireless Tower I use in my shop.


So like I said. Do not feel a need to respond till I get my next post in with what I am trying on Linux-Lite. In detail.


Edit: Just tested on my Iphone 5S with IOS 9.2. Works on it also. Just added info for the thread. Not a comparison or whining.
