Excellent thread here - http://askubuntu.com/questions/55868/installing-broadcom-wireless-drivers have a read through.

I am with engineer, I have gone on to a different Distro that works seamlessly out of the box and also after any updates and is just a small a footprint, I have updated multiple times now with NO lose of WIFI so will continue to use the other distro, it is a shame as I really did like this Distro and it ran fine on the laptop and did everything I wanted or needed, with this one exception.

I have the exact same card that you have in your laptop. Is the laptop an ACER Aspire 3000?
If it is you have a button on the front of the laptop that you need to press in order for it to be activated.  Also if you follow the Broadcom wireless Issues thread, bitsnpcs pointed me to a few places via links as to how to resolve this.

As for step 6 you might try pressing the wireless button on the laptop see if that turns on the wireless again. (at step 6 that is) Give it a minute or two to be seen...

When I followed the steps, my wireless came back on while I was still typing stuff.
Also you should be sure to remove any other driver listed in the synaptic, the only one that should be there is the b43-fwcutter, then do all the recommended things bitsnpcs said.

Good luck

We'll I am throwing in the towel and moving on.   The updates killed it, and there is no saving it.

Later,

Good luck..   :-\

I am very frustrated at the moment.  It's running S L O W, and when I shut the system down the machine will not cut off, I have to manually shut her down..   ARGGG!   I think I may have to re-install Linux and start from scratch.
Funny, it was running good before I downloaded the upgrades.. ?

I need a break, I am heading to my martial arts class to let off some steam.
