I am with engineer, I have gone on to a different Distro that works seamlessly out of the box and also after any updates and is just a small a footprint, I have updated multiple times now with NO lose of WIFI so will continue to use the other distro, it is a shame as I really did like this Distro and it ran fine on the laptop and did everything I wanted or needed, with this one exception.

    I have the exact same card that you have in your laptop. Is the laptop an ACER Aspire 3000?
If it is you have a button on the front of the laptop that you need to press in order for it to be activated.  Also if you follow the Broadcom wireless Issues thread, bitsnpcs pointed me to a few places via links as to how to resolve this.

As for step 6 you might try pressing the wireless button on the laptop see if that turns on the wireless again. (at step 6 that is) Give it a minute or two to be seen...

When I followed the steps, my wireless came back on while I was still typing stuff.
Also you should be sure to remove any other driver listed in the synaptic, the only one that should be there is the b43-fwcutter, then do all the recommended things bitsnpcs said.

Good luck

We'll I am throwing in the towel and moving on.   The updates killed it, and there is no saving it.

Later,

Good luck..   :-\

I am very frustrated at the moment.  It's running S L O W, and when I shut the system down the machine will not cut off, I have to manually shut her down..   ARGGG!   I think I may have to re-install Linux and start from scratch.
Funny, it was running good before I downloaded the upgrades.. ?

I need a break, I am heading to my martial arts class to let off some steam.

Hello,
if you do Menu>Settings>Install Drivers
which drivers are listed and which of those have their radio button ticked/coloured ?

I see you have found the wifi card, unsure which method you used, you can find if you do
Menu>System>System Information.
Or via terminal, to open this click the icon, or ctrl-alt-t (press and hold down CTRL key and ALT at the same time ,then hit T on keyboard) now type in -
Code: [Select]
lspci
in the terminal window and press enter.

For more info's type
Code: [Select]
lspci -vvand press enter.

I am unsure how to help with it hanging up on line 6, hopefully experienced members can help.

$ sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
$ wget http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
$ tar xf broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
$ cd broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/
$ sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ wl_apsta_mimo.o
$ sudo modprobe b43
$ sudo echo "b43" >> /etc/modules

I run this script and the machine get hung up on line 6 and does nothing.  Also, when I try and reboot, the machine never shuts off, the screen goes blank and it sets and spins until I manually turn it off.

I also performed an install update and lost my wifi connection today.

I ran that script provided above and it did not solve the problem.
I hooked the computer up to the modem via Ethernet cable and updated the drivers and still no fix.    I need to go check on it and see what's going on.  It's in the other room..   more later.

Hello Engineer,
which wifi card and driver are you using ?

Good work mpig  :)
This will be helpful/useful for others in the community in future, that may have this problem on a similar Broadcom card.

I had the same problem after updated. When i typed dmesg | grep b43:

Code: [Select]
ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode15.fw" not found
ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode15.fw" not found

It fixed after i did this in terminal:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer

I have the same issue, twice so far I have had to reinstall to get it to work properly and have decided to go to a different distro until this issue is corrected.
