hi again!

According to the pkglist:
https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=lite&pkglist=true&version=3.8#pkglist

linux lite 3.8 has got:
bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu1~1.1

but in live session I cant load this driver for my wifi card BCM43142  'cos there is not the "bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271" in the live media.

I have laptop hp stream 13 and this laptop has only wifi adapter.
:(

Hi MK3,

what I did was proceed to Install the os regardless of lack of internet connection. Then I found that "Bluetooth Manager" worked in the installed os ... as per my post.

I'm new to Linux and so I cannot talk about technical matters, just saying what worked for me AFTER I installed Linux Lite. Of course your set-up may be different, but have a look at Bluetooth manager in case it works for you.

Anyway I hope you find a way to get it sorted, it really is a very nice os.

HOW to make my current live usb to contain the installed wifi driver?
I want my LL live media working with wifi connection before I do instalation to hard disk and throw  windows10 to cosmos.
I have to make sure that wifi works fine before I do it.

Hello mk63,

I do not know a workaround for this in systemback.
If nobody else knows the answer, then you will need to make a new "Live USB with persistence", here is a tutorial for making this with LiLi on Windows -
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14912/create-a-persistent-bootable-ubuntu-usb-flash-drive/

After this USB with persistence is made you can install the driver .deb you have into it, after reboot the driver will still be in the Live USB.
You then can test all is working with wifi.
When choosing you want to install LL to the hard drive, after installed to the hard drive, you will also need to install the .deb driver to hard drive, as no internet access after installing LL to hard drive, until you do use .deb to install it.
eg; not to delete the .deb file from your external storage until you have used it in hard drive install.

Hi Searchernow

I hope that was clear, if not please ask.
Good idea but...
I cant do this because my bluetooth does not have driver installed in live session.

Hi bitsnpcs!

Quote
Alternatively you can download the .deb file of the driver using another computer/phone, then insert that media into your offline HP Stream and use it to install the driver.
I downloaded:
broadcom-sta-dkms_6.30.223.271-5_all.deb

Now I can see the driver in Synaptic Manager as installed but my laptop needs the reboot to work wifi.
In live session I cant do this so...

Quote
Be sure you save the "Live system create" to the empty USB or you will wipe your current live usb.

After installing the driver I went to:
Manu>System>Systemback
storage directory: /home
Function menu: "live system create" ---- button is not active!!!

"system repair" is active only!

HOW to make my current live usb to contain the installed wifi driver?

Jerry,
In live media LL in Synaptic I can see installed packages for Broadcom wifi adapter:
firmware-b43-installer
firmware-b43legacy-installer

but there is not installed:
bcmwl-kernel-source

Maybe next time YOU will insert this package to LL iso file?

We can provide better Broadcom support, but not complete 100% support.

Your particular chipset requires the bcmwl-kernel-source driver, that is what the Beta had preloaded. The final does not have that driver.

Jerry,
English is not my native language.
As I understand you I can install broadcom drivers from live usb LL3.6 Final.
Yes?
I could do it from live usb LL3.6 Beta - drivers were installed direct from live media, not from Internet.

edit:
In Release Announcement there is the sentence:
Better Broadcom wireless support.

So far I had the best wireless connection in linux lite via live media from all distros I tried.
Xubuntu has good wireless connection on my hp stream laptop too. But not perfect.
As I know and read Broadcom chipsets have problems under linux os.

We do all that you can do with Broadcom drivers in the final. The Beta used one set, the final uses 2 sets of drivers. The decision in the end was to go with the 2 sets to provide more drivers. This represents the messy state supplying Broadcom proprietary drivers has been in for a long time. I wish there was one all inclusive package.

Hi,

I'm new to Lite, so my non-technical description has no command lines etc., but I'm copying this from my post on my similar problem re Broadcom wifi driver on Dell Latitude E5420:

"Here is what I did, based on my scribbled notes as I went along:

My phone wifi hotspot was no use without the driver for Broadcom installed, but I installed Linux Lite os from the live usb  anyway.

I then enabled Bluetooth on my phone, made it discoverable, and set my phone's internet sharing (hotspot) to via bluetooth.

On Lite os I went to Menu (left end of Panel) > Settings > Bluetooth manager

on the window "Bluetooth Devices" I selected the phone, then  + added device (phone) ; paired ; trusted ; Setup > Connect > select "network access point" > "next" >  ..... "please wait .... Device added and connected successfully"

and so I was online!

I had the "Welcome to Linux Lite" screen, which gives 4 recommended steps:

1) I installed updates

2) I installed drivers - here I was offered both a Broadcom driver and a driver for Intel cpu firmware - I selected both and they installed quickly.

at this stage I was able to connect with wifi and that has worked faultlessly since.

the rest of the set-up was as recommended.

I hope that was clear, if not please ask."

Hello Jerry and developers!
Do you hear me?
:)
Would you insert to new
linux-lite-3.6-64bit.iso
drivers for broadcom wifi adapter for those who have no wired adapter in their laptops?
You did this in beta edition LL3.6
Please.
