I reported earlier that this appeared to be common in a lot of the distros. But after some "playing" I found I could get it to work on all of those previously mentioned.
I clicked on the WiFi icon and the network list comes up. (If the list isn't there you may have a driver issue.. look elsewhere for solution). I clicked on my network name and the window came up asking for the password. I filled it in, and nothing happened. So far so bad.
I clicked on the panel icon again but this time I clicked "Edit Connections" at the bottom of the list. A different window came up and I found my WiFi name under WiFi and clicked on it. Then clicked "Edit".
A new window with the information already filled out comes up. (I think it was filled out because of the first step that didn't work, not sure but....) At the top I clicked on the "Security" and filled out the password. Save and close.
The icon started to spin and my wifi came up.
I tried this on a friends laptop and had to click on the panel icon, then click on the name in the list, then it started.
I've tried this on several distros and it works.
Hope this solves it for some of you.
