All fixed via Teamviewer. Long story short, I had to use ndiswrapper to install the Windows 32bit driver. Fun times :)

I'm not sure your info is right about the Marvell chipset. These devices were most often Intersil chipped. If so the device firmware downloader and utilities and documentation for prism stuff are available in Synaptic. Type intersil in the search box to find them.

TC

It's definitely the Marvell chipset, unfortunately.

You're probably unaccustomed to running linux scripts, so let's keep this simple.

Without any background in running bash scripts, you are MUCH better off spending $5 - $10 on a linux compatible wireless card from eBay, then your wireless will run on most distros out-of-the-box without the need for any drivers.

This chipset must be set up with bash commands, there is no other way as it is unsupported in linux to this day.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsNetgear

I have run bash scripts, if I have clear instructions for this card I can do it easily. Thanks, though.

is there a hardware switch for wireless on the outside of the laptop, and is this switched on ?

Hi, there's no switch, but the laptop has the ethernet cable plugged in. Would that make a difference?

That's not the result of the script, that's the actual script code itself.

Well, that explains why it didn't look like the results other people got. Why did that happen?

This is what I typed:

Code: [Select]
wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && \
chmod +x wireless-info && \
./wireless-info

I opened the wireless-info file in home and pasted the contents. Now I'm thoroughly confused.

I'm trying to give my uncle's old laptop a new life with LinuxLite (love it!) but his Netgear WG511v2 PCMCIA wireless card has been the last piece of the puzzle I can't get to work.

The driver for the card with the Marvell chip is installed, I followed the steps at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper but when I got to iwconfig, I get:

Code: [Select]
lo             no wireless extensions
enp2s0     no wireless extensions

I stumbled across instructions on how to generate wireless-info.txt (here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=13024222) and this is what was generated:

Code: [Select]
