Hello!

If it's working in LL on the old provider, it SHOULD keep working. If it's not working on the new provider, then it has something to do with the provisioning of the changeover, which is a telco issue...

I know mate , it always should work . Thanx for the comeback . It another cable provider & other modems-router , it s because of that , that I have these issues .

Now I m able to have Internet with the Thomson Modem only , not the added D-Link DIR-862L Router ( nither Wired or wifi connections ) that s required for added VOip or something that my mother wants . Always something ! lol

Hi Altman,

Not sure what the issue is.?, But I'm prety sure it's not Linux Lite.

The DCM475 looks to be a prety straightforward dsl modem with Ethernet presentation.
Unless it was supplied by your provider with some kind of "special" firmware then adding the DIR-862L Router should just work.
However, some providers limit the number of PC's/Devices.?

I'm assuming your PC/Laptop network is set-up for DHCP, and it gets an address automatically, it should just connect and work.
You said it works just plugged into  DCM475.

The only things I can think of is if the DCM475 is set up to be DHCP server, and the DIR-862L is also set up to be DHCP server.?
or maybe they are are on different IP Address Ranges.??
I think there maybe a conflict, Something to try..

First,
Plug your PC/Laptop into the DCM475 and then "Left Click" on the network icon down near the clock and click on "Information"
You should see a section "IPv4", what is the "IP Address".? something like 192.168.xxx.xxx

Now unplug the cable from the DCM475 and Plug into the DIR-862L, and do the above again,
What is the "IP Address".? something like 192.168.xxx.xxx

Let us know

Dave

Appreciated .

Some update from Wirezfree s tips/tricks .

I have completely different #s at ip4 s connections or whatever it s called .

Also , it s telling me that I m connected on the internet but I can t get ff to work with D-Link s Router .

O.K,

I did a bit of Googling, Given you are in Canada I see "Rogers" is mentioned a lot
if you are with them, they may have a certain config for the DCM475.?
Some general Googling shows it may have an address of 192.168,100.1
and the DIR-862L may have an address of 192.168.0.1

The RED digit indicate they are on different ranges.
Now if this was me, and given my provider(in UK) I could just change the range on the DIR-862L, and Turn OFF DHCP.
But without knowing if your providers is doing something "Funky" with MAC addresses.??  The best I can suggest is
"IF" what I suspect is happening, then maybe go on to your providers Support forum and pose the the question.?

Also , when looking at Info as you wrote , I don t see Drivers anymore , I( saw it before ! Wonder what happenned there !

Hi,

Another Google, It appears only support you up to the modem, it's up to you to add a Router.
I found this, bit old but similar scenario connecting Wireless Router to their modem.
Maybe join that Forum.?

Hi,

We did it again...
There are no drivers involved in this scenario.
This is purely a Modem/Router config issue.
Nothing to do with LL

Good Luck... Let us know how you get on
Unless your provider is playing hard-ball on devices connecting.?
This should be relatively easy to fix.

Well , got in touch with Acanac which not surprisingly told me to get in touch with DLink , which don t have Phone Support & resend you on their Web Support that I can t either have it to work on either LL or my mother s Win 8.1 ! What kind of business is that ! Getting pissed off right now after 3rd day attempt .

Sorry about that  folks , but it s getting ridicule right now . NO support from DLink , I wont buy this if I ever need one later on .

The real thing is I don t know how to configure that thing , never had to beforehand . Might be easy for some , but I don t get this thing at all .

Hi altman,

I know the feeling....
Typical in the consumer world passing the buck.
O.K... Lets see if I can help.

1. per my previous instruction can you confirm the IP Addresses of the DCM475 & DIR682 ..?
Then
2. With your PC/Laptop connected to the DCM475, open: ftp://ftp.dlink.ca/PRODUCTS/DIR-862L/DIR-862L_QIG_1.00_ENFR.PDF and save instructions locally
Then
3. Then follow the instructions, If you encounter problems tell me in which section and at what point you get stuck.

Lets get to this point.

Funny, just read an article this morning along similar lines to above situation:  http://www.oftwominds.com/blogdec14/Corporate-America12-14.html (http://www.oftwominds.com/blogdec14/Corporate-America12-14.html).  (Your situation isn't funny Altman -- just funny that I happened to read that article, then later on see your frustration with corporate customer service passing the buck on down the line.)

Hi gold_finger,

The article is so true here, just replace Corporate America with Corporate UK.
Some times you call a provider and it's like...
"why are you bothering me" or "You want want service, that's not part of my remit"

It's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy, we all want cheap goods and services,
we are now unfortunately experiencing the after sale "fallout" "there are no free lunches"

Got everything running with either my LL laptop & my mother s tower , iphones & ipad also work today . Thomson Modem s ok . DLink Router got configured , now the VOiP needs to be configured .

D-Link wasn t helpful at all , called carrier ( Acanac ) which helped in a way & Wirezfree also .

Now Cisco VOiP needs to work .

My brother which is an IT guy , don t know what it is exactly what he s doing , will come for Christmas & nfix this . Luckily I have my cell & my mother laso while waiting for the VOiP to work properly .
