How much do you need it adjusted? Do you need it more transparent? I did most of the removal by hand.

I have also been working on this.

Very nice, sysdrum. That's pretty darn close to what I was after.

mlsmith, you can set color to alpha in gimp.
color > color to alpha
choose the color you whish to declare transparent
black in this case
Is this what you need?

It still leaves the glow but it's fairly close to what I was after. I was considering trying to create an SVG in Inkscape which might allow more flexibility and sharpness for future graphics work. Thanks for reminding me about that function in Gimp! I don't know why I always try to use the color tool.

If you choose color to alpha it does crazy thing to the image. I fixed the image but when i put it on imgur it converts it to a jpg.

To expand on what sysdrum said, would you be opposed to interpretations of the feather for submitted artwork or would you like to keep it as close to the original as possible?

I understand. I was just curious if the original artist could produce one without the background but if that's what we have to work with then that's fine.   :)

They are the source images, therefore there is no better resolution.

Those are the ones I'm referring to. :)

Did someone create the feather for you?

It's beyond my ability to remove all of the black, as graphics aren't really my forte. I compensate by either putting a dark, soft glow around the edges or use a darker background.

Was it created for LL specifically or did you adopt the image as the LL logo? Just wondering if we can track down the source or if the current feather is official and needs to remain that way.

If it is okay I can fix it.
