LL2.0 clean  install, Updated then new kernel. Tosh A10 reported earlier as OK.

Odd issue using Midori browser and Firefox.  ( not noticed on chromium as yet.)

When typing in search field, and on some web pages,  some lines are randomly "blacked out" as if with a magic marker - as if they had been censored.

Highlighting the line from the end,  left click mouse hold and dragging pointer backwards, reveals the wording  underneath as it were.

Does not happen in Libre Office.

Had not noticed this in LL2.0 before the Kernel change, but to be fair had not used the browsers fully before updating kernel.

Any ideas.  1 GB RAM and Intel 855 Vid.

SOLVED for Firefox thanks to SCOTT(0) pointer given below. Ta very much :).

Midori problem still exists. I will contact them for suggestions and report back.

Thanks Kurt, we are specifically looking for feedback on real hardware, ie. ATI, nVidia or Intel graphics cards, but it is interesting to see some VB feedback :)

Hi Valtam - Not sure how relevant my feedback is as I'm running it in Virtual Machine here currently..

All seems to work ok though as a post above I had to first run sudo apt-get update ( in fact twice ) to get it to install.

One thing noted so far is that it runs a little heavier on resources ( not sure if this was expected ? )

i.e.

3.15 cold start - 155Mb ram
3.16 cold start - 176Mb ram

3.15 with vlc - 187Mb ram
3.16 with vlc - 220Mb ram

Not being picky but that's all I have found..

Keep up the Great Work !

Kurt

New 3.16 Linux Lite kernel is available for 32 & 64bit machines. As per usual, please read the warning below. The 32bit kernel is non-pae so would especially like to see feedback on this.

Look forward to your feedback :)

Open a terminal and do:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-3.16.0 linux-image-linuxlite-3.16.0 -y
Ignore any errors in the terminal.

WARNING: This should NOT be tested on your everyday machine unless you know how to remove the kernel from a tty. If you have a spare pc or laptop lying around with ATI, nVidia or Intel graphics cards we really need your feedback and your results.

LL2.0 fresh install, updates installed, Kernel 3.15 All working OK Toshiba Sat Pro A10  1GB RAM Celeron  R 2 GHZ, Intel 855 integrated Graphics Screen 1024 x 798 60Hz 3COM PCMIA wifi

Very stable and fast!!  Had to play about with keyboard settings to delete Eng/US default.

Great bit of work LL Team. Thank you.

Q for Valtam.

Given your "one non PAE version for all time" staement above:-

What is the effect of running 32 bit PAE on a non PAE machine i.e. old laptops. Reason for asking- does this mean that LL development for old laptops will cease OR

Can Old laptops utilise extra memory in linux if BIOS  is the limiting factor.

Newbie learning curve :)

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback on 3.15, overall looks like it went pretty well.

I'm currently putting together a 3.16 for both 32 & 64bit. Thought I'd change things up a little this time around and do the 32bit without PAE. This at least gives one version for all time that is non-pae. Both should be ready soon, will post a new announcement.

Installed Kernel 3.15 earlier and just restarted (was busy looking for more material for a new LL tutorial  :D). Seems to have improved boot time by a second or two, but I can't be too sure. If it did, excellent!

Running on an Acer Aspire 5750 w/ Intel Core i5 (2nd Gen) CPU @ 2.3 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500Gig HDD and Intel HD Graphics 3000. My specs can be found here, excluding the Windows 7 of course, hahaha.

Ta G_F :) Good job one of us knows what I am doing!
Installed updates found missing 3.15 .
Kernel 3.15.0 installed faultlessly and all appears to be flying. Toshiba A10, Celeron R 2.0 GHz, Intel 855GM integrated Graphics - running at 1024 x 768 60Hz.

Very Happy Bunny!!  Brought much faster life back into the old machine!!

Your sources list probably needs to be refreshed first after initially installing the system.  If you run sudo apt-get update before running those commands, it should then work.  However, if you just did a fresh install, run the regular "Install Updates" (Menu -> Install Updates) to install all initial updates first.  Then install the new kernel afterwards.  (If you run "Install Updates", that will automatically update the sources list so you won't need to run sudo apt-get update before the kernel upgrade in that case.)

This thread is specifically for the linux-headers-linuxlite-3.15.0 linux-image-linuxlite-3.15.0 kernel, I don't want people confusing the issue with other kernel versions. Thank you :)

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Si1520  + 2GB RAM on LL 2.0 + new trial Kernel. Video working fine on INTEL 945GM/GMS 943/940 GML Integrated Graphics Controller (rev03).  Display max 1280 x 800

Was working on original Kernel.

As an aside - I know it should be in software section- but Google Earth still does not work as "unsupported graphics card" even after the kernel upgrade - Works on this machine with Puppy Linux 5.7.1 and Xorph  Puppy upgrade..

Thank you for the Intel feedback, much appreciated.
