Hi,

Once you have installed the kernel, it is recommended to keep the old one until you are sure everything works correctly.
I installed the latest 4.2.0, but I had an error in the dmesg log file indicating a kernel taint,
I could not find any reasons why, or any fixes, I did not want to take a chance so I removed it.

So I re-booted and on the start-up grub screen I selected the original 3.13.kernel
Then once re-booted I went into Menu > System > Lite Tweaks and used the "Kernel Removal" option, shown below.
When you are on the kernel removal selection screen, you need to select "2" items, it gives you instructions.

One question after installing the new Kernel do we have to un-install the old one? if so how do you do it?

Thank you!

Cheers Dave. The first post in the thread does state 'Ignore any errors in the terminal.' The first 3 errors you have posted, happen on every Lite Kernel install and are innocuous.

@Jerry,

I have a small Atom based PC that is on the opposite side of the house, WiFi on the device was already flaky, it would drop very frequently, 5/6 X a day.
So I did a new driver install, and it would run for 3~4 days, then maybe drop, a re-start of the network manager would fix it.
Given it is not a critical device, I thought I would try the latest kernel. You mention to ignore any errors... are these the errors:

First Error
Code: [Select]
Setting up linux-image-linuxlite-4.2.0 (0010) ...

Hmm. There is a symbolic link /lib/modules/4.2.0-linuxlite/build
However, I can not read it: No such file or directory
 Therefore, I am deleting /lib/modules/4.2.0-linuxlite/build

Hmm. The package shipped with a symbolic link /lib/modules/4.2.0-linuxlite/source
However, I can not read the target: No such file or directory
 Therefore, I am deleting /lib/modules/4.2.0-linuxlite/source

Running depmod.

Second Error:
Code: [Select]
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.2.0-linuxlite (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/4.3.10/build/make.log for more information.

Third Error:
Code: [Select]
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.2.0-linuxlite (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/4.3.10/build/make.log for more information.

This is not a Virtualbox Guest, and Virtualbox is not installed.

NOTE:
I decided to roll back to 3.13, because even though it upgraded, and everything appeared to work...
I did not like the "tainting kernel" error in the dmesg log file:
Code: [Select]
[1.312015] sdhci: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
Also there is no SD Card device on this pc.

I now have a workaround for the dropping wifi.
I re-start the network manager daily via cron.

Somehow, the LL repo is missing. Add:

Code: [Select]
## Linux Lite Repository
deb http://repo.linuxliteos.com/linuxlite/ beryl main

to the bottom of the file, save and update again. Then choose a kernel to install. But ONLY if you you need it.

Yes I have Lite 2.6 on it. That is what I am writing from. And every day when I log on I do an update.

I get
Code: [Select]
GPG error: http://extras.ubuntu.com trusty Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 16126D3A3E5C1192
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package linux-headers-linuxlite-4.2.0
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'linux-headers-linuxlite-4.2.0'
I have to explain that I installed Lite 2.6 from a Systamback Live USB that I made from the first computer,
since the one I want to install on doesn't recognise the USB I made with unetbootin with the 2.6 iso on it.
I also have as source Software from France

Am trying to install this kernel on another machine and am getting the error
Code: [Select]
E: Unable to locate package linux-image-linuxlite-4.2.0
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'linux-image-linuxlite-4.2.0'

When you say another machine, is Linux Lite on that other machine?
