We need people with the following graphics cards: ATI, Intel and nVidia.
Happy to try out on various desktops and laptops - however they are all workers! Is there a way to do this from a Live CD or have a special Iso to run as a live CD. Tks.
So that we can better support new hardware, We've starting producing a custom Linux Lite kernel. I've yet to decide if this is something that will be offered post-release of each Linux Lite, or with the release.
For this to be a success, I need your help.
We need people with the following graphics cards: ATI, Intel and nVidia.
Thank you :)

Hi, i install the LINUXLITE 3.15 kernel en what a surprise. My pc get more memory than the normal 3.15 kernel. 1004,6 ipv 1003,2.
Question : is there a site where the linuxlite kernel stand. I was looking but can't find him.
Thanks.
Is there anything in particular that you would like me to try ???
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Si1520 + 2GB RAM on LL 2.0 + new trial Kernel. Video working fine on INTEL 945GM/GMS 943/940 GML Integrated Graphics Controller (rev03). Display max 1280 x 800
Was working on original Kernel.
As an aside - I know it should be in software section- but Google Earth still does not work as "unsupported graphics card" even after the kernel upgrade - Works on this machine with Puppy Linux 5.7.1 and Xorph Puppy upgrade..
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-3.16.0 linux-image-linuxlite-3.16.0 -y
Odd issue using Midori browser and Firefox. ( not noticed on chromium as yet.)
When typing in search field, and on some web pages, some lines are randomly "blacked out" as if with a magic marker - as if they had been censored.

Jerry, I need at least 3.17 so that my touchpad works. Do you recommend I wait for you to add the necessary modules to the custom kernel or should I install the latest from mainline?
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-3.18.0 linux-image-linuxlite-3.18.0 -y
The D620 is now running 3.18. - currently getting a kernel panic defaulting back to 3.13. I will push it to the NUC this afternoon and see if it does the same.
Running 3.18 and so far no problems
Running 3.18 and so far no problems
What is your hardware?

Edit: first need to find out how to get the info you need"

Thanks for the custom kernels, Jerry - just installed the latest LL 3.18. It's very handy as my little Chromebook's touchpad and touchscreen didn't get support until 3.17 so bleeding edge is a must for me.

rokytnji, can you copy this post to the kernel section and I'll delete this one. Thanks.
Can you show me where please? I aim to please. If OK. I am going to crash for tonight. Will do it tomorrow.

Kernel upgrades should only be carried out if you have bleeding edge hardware that is not currently supported in your default kernel. ...
... If it ain't broke...
Can this be used on dual boot netbooks?
3.19 Linux Lite kernel is now available for 32 & 64bit machines.
Open a terminal and do:Code: [Select]sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-3.19.0 linux-image-linuxlite-3.19.0 -y
Ignore any errors in the terminal.

For the Keyring asking I propose to invoce it with Installers and fileshareing packages. Not with wifi and other connection possibilites. Is that doable?
Safe to ignore rokytnji. You can even go into Synaptic and remove everything VirtualBox if you don't use it, will also get rid of those errors in future kernel releases, as well as speeding up start-up and shutdown slightly. VirtualBox will always error on new kernels.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-4.0.0 linux-image-linuxlite-4.0.0 -y
By the way, what does this mean? This should NOT be tested on your everyday machine unless you know how to remove the kernel from a tty.

Is the kernel update something I should be concerned about...everything is working well and I'm afraid to attempt it and mess everything up? :)
NB: This should NOT be tested on your everyday machine unless you know how to remove the kernel from a tty. If you have a spare pc or laptop lying around with the above graphics cards we really need your feedback and your results.

Will Kernel 4.1.2 be available soon 4.1.1 is proving buggy for me..

Not speaking for Jerry, but I think shiping with the current LTS kernel will be the case. And still providing the latest kernel release in the lite repos. So that users get the best of both worlds. I see no reason currently to ship the newest kernel on the iso. If anyone has a good reason counter to this tho... please correct me.... Hopefully, the next version of Linux Lite will keep the current kernel because everything is working great. If not and there is a problem with a newer kernel, I'll have to learn how to roll back to the one in 2.4.
.. I think shiping with the current LTS kernel will be the case. ...
You are correct shaggy.
Can someone remind me what the "the current LTS kernel" is, since I have lost track with various rash updates?
I solved some of my bugs by purging xorg-edgers and recofiguring, but I still have a whole list of error messages at boot and occasional freezes.

Hmmm. Forum reply box does not seem like opera-developer 32 64bit. Because I do not see any size in reply but preview shows them. I am not even messing with size in reply toolbar. This is all on auto. I guess I won't post here in Opera anymore.dmesg | grep firmware

Is there a specific reason why you need version 4.7 of the Linux kernel? Thanks Jerry for replying so promptly. I have a problem with LL2.8 regularly hanging at boot-up and shutdown in "set-up 1" in sig. It's not a UEFI issue as it occurs if installed on a GTP disk (set to either UEFI or Legacy mode in settings) or on an MBR disk (Legacy only). I thought updating the kernel might help though to be quite frank am a bit clueless on this...
We provide a warning with every kernel release, this is to avoid situations like this. We advise not to try installing these kernels unless you know what you're doing. At this point I would stop, you also have the Google key error in your terminal output, but that's a separate issue. Thanks Jerry, I'll follow your advice and leave upgrading to a new kernel version well alone for now.

Is there anyone willing to try the 32bit kernel? I need to know if this is just me that it is quirky with. It won't bork your system, if it does the same as it does here, you just won't be able to boot into it from Grub. If that is the case, just reboot into your usual kernel from Grub.Missed this Jerry - If you're still needing someone to test I can try it out on the Mini...
Hopefully 4.10 will be hassle free.

Generally the kernel consist of 3 packages: linux-headers, linux-image, linux-image-extra.
I notice that in the custom kernels the package "extra" is not include (exist only: linux-headers-linuxlite and linux-image-linuxlite)
Why? The linux-image-extra is not important?

@light_user you get that. Newer kernels drop drivers etc. This stops the kernel ballooning over time.

... Newer kernels drop drivers etc. This stops the kernel ballooning over time.
I understand now that is an advantage to installing new kernels. I think they also fix bugs in kernels, like the mad cow. As I posted before "Will it be available by Lite Update when it won't be a problem?"
Will a "new" kernel version be available via Updates -- I would say for now most likely not -- although there are tools that can install kernels as well as remove (Lite Tweaks - kernel removal)..
Again this is something that one would need to understand what their getting into, how it may affect their machine and how to get out of; not necessarily "safe"...
As for "fixes" those typically are patched via Updates incrementally an example:Kernel 4.4.0 -> 4.4.28 -> 4.4.53 etc.... (looking at lite tweaks one can see the various installed kernels)

No, what I meant was (I should have been more specific): at what release of LL will a newer kernel be installed as the default? LL 3.8 (and when is that due?)? or do we have to wait for the LL 4.X series?Jerry, when will a kernel later than the 4.4 series become the default?
