Hello!

As you have now discovered, some printers are better supported in Linux than others. Out of all of them, I'd have to say that HP has put in the best effort to support their products in Linux.

I don't own any of them any more, but from what I've seen, the Brother and Samsung printers have had their respective user communities 'pitch in' to help better support their products in Linux, also.

You MAY already have this, but for Lexmark, I found a list of their supported printers here:

Here is the driver for Ubuntu/Linux Lite. It's a little more complex to install than usual, but here it is:

Might have to try the 64bit version on a friends Toshiba laptop with an older Lexmark Printer. That is one tuff nut to crack. Nothing I have tried so far has allowed the Lexmark printer to work. Tried a couple of Distro's and quite a few printer config's with the downloaded and installed drivers, as well as going on line to get cups to work. Amazed I still have any hair left.
Never had such a tuff time with a printer.

Most printers should work in Linux Lite, especially older model ones. My Lexmark printer from 2001 (barely came out after Windows XP released) works brilliantly! It still has the issue it always had, it always wants to print green (not a pleasant bright green, more like a dark Romaine Lettuce green) for some reason, despite having black ink in it, but that is a printer issue that I had in Windows as well, so no fault of Linux Lite. Its why I don't use the printer anymore.

Glad you like the distro.  It should do well for the older computers and, depending on the brands of printers, you may be pleasantly surprised by how easily LL handles the old printers.  HP printers in general are very well supported.  Up until very recently (when printer finally died) I had no problems with recognition and setup of an old HP printer from 1996-97.  Setup LL last year on a friend's ancient (2001) P4 computer with only 512MB of RAM and it works great (for an old computer).  She has an old HP printer (around 2003-4) that was recognized right away and needed no special setup to get working.

Let us know how things work out.

Just downloaded LinuxLite and burned to a CD (Actually downloaded with my 3G enabled phones hotspot mode and the md5 sum matched, so I ran with it). I will be reading all the threads to get familiar with it.
I will use this for Windows XP replacement on older machines that have low resurces (I fix older machines for my Spiritual brothers and sisters).
Took a little walk through it in the live mode, not bad at all. Even had support for my old wireless adapter card (Linksys WPC54G version 3.1). Will have to see how hard it is to install ndiswrapper for my Linksys WPC54G version 2.0 (really, really old wireless adapter card).
The only thing I can't try is printer set up (no printer). Most of my brothers and sisters have old printers and I will have to figure out each ones driver install method. Hopefully this will be easy to do with this Distro.

Nice work Valtam. The added legacy support for older wireless adapter cards is a big help as well as WINE. Hope to see some legacy support for printers as well (would be nice, but not holding my breath on that one).
