vaikus84,

Welcome to LL forum.

Regarding your Thinkpad related questions:  it's entirely possible that no-one here will be able to fully answer them unless they actually have same/similar machine and have tried tweaking it as you wish to.

Relatively speaking, we're still a rather "young" distro and forum -- thus don't have as large a membership of users as other forums that have been around for much longer.  I have a feeling that you might be better off posting your questions to a forum like LinuxQuestions.org.  They've been around for many, many years and have a huge base of users.  Much better chance that you'll run into people who've got similar system and have done what you're looking to do.

Best bet when making a post over there is to include the following info with your post so they have as much details as possible about your current setup:
  • Which version of LL you've installed and let them know it's an Ubuntu 14.04 based distro using the Xfce desktop (so they don't have to look it up if they don't already know).
  • Exact Thinkpad model
  • Include output from following terminal command to give them full specs of your system:
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fxz

P.s.  If you do end up finding answers from different forum, please provide links to those solutions back here under your posts.  That would surely be helpful to others in the future with similar questions.  Thanks.

Hi :) And thank you for this idea. I have been messing around with my T430 for several days now. Still have trouble getting free-falll sensor and microphone mute button to work. Also no idea if my 3G modem works or not. And FN+F5 ergo the wirieless signals on/off switching without switching off the hardbutton on the right side of the T430 is also a questionmark. I'll let you guys know in your forum when I get some progress in any of my questions that I posted here.

Wondering if someone here already has experience in setting up this particular machine.

Meaning:

*Thinkfan software (so it's quiet when doing nothing in particular and revs higher only after 55'C degrees Celsius) and so thinkfan starts automatically with the system
*Free-fall sensor (getting it to work correctly)
*Setting up Pulseaudio to have Noise Cancellation for the Mic
*Setting up pulseaudio to have DisplayPort audio visible in pavucontrol
*Setting up powermanagement to be as efficient as possible to have longer batterylife / Maybe someone knows TLP well here, because I've used it on other Distros so far, but I don't know the nifty specific stuff for it on a ThinkPad
*How to set up all the FN keys and special function keys to work ( ThinkVantage button, Mic Mute button )
*How to optimize Intel HD 4000 graphics ( so no tearing occurs and graphics memory can ramp up to maximum specified )
*How to optimize HDD / scheduler / hdparm etc.
*How to set the right display color profile (ICC)
*How to start Intel CPU Microcode with the system
*How to set up the Synaptics Touchpad with all it's functions
*And how to get bluetooth and 3g modem properly to work
*And maybe something else that I'm missing

Thank you in advance and nice Distro,
vaikus84

Hi vaikus84,

I think you may need to look at some of the T430 related forums.
I think you will get lot's of help here on common/generic issues,
but unless people have your exact configuration it will be difficult.

You have to remember, Linux(Lite) is always in catch-up.
Hardware manufactures generally do no provide support for Linux(Lite)
Therefore we are reliant on devs creating support for hardware after the
release of mainstream support by the manufactures.

I for example a relatively new mini PC,
I have 2 issues that at present are creating a challenge for me.
That is not a fault of Linux Lite, it's just the way things are.

Did you try LL2.2 64 bit "live"? if so via DVD or USB?
Were the problems evident then?

Are the problems you are experiencing  after a full install  with dual boot  with Windows OS (8 or above)?

Since most of the stuff is not there when using the Live USB I could not test it this way.

I installed LL 2.2 64bit as a single entity only. Meaning no other OS is present.

Howdy and Welcome. I do not know if my replies were repeats of others in different threads.
I have no experience with thinkfan. So I will not be of much help I guess.

Thats a ton of questions, you're better off posting them separately into the appropriate sections in the Forum and have people contribute help one at a time. Cheers :)

I will try to do that to the best of my abilities :) Thank you for the advice.
