Hello everyone.  I too am brand new to Linux having just installed Linux Lite on an older generation laptop that had XP previously.  I'm looking forward to reading the posts and learning more about Linux!

Welcome to both Linux AND Linux Lite.  In addition to a large and growing free software base, Linux also offers an API called WINE - which, to varying degrees, can help make many Windows programs useable in a Linux environment, also.

As far as questions go, ASK AWAY! Between here and other Linux support communities, There are a LOT of people out there who are more than willing to help you find the answers you seek...
