Title: Hello
Post by: trimis on August 09, 2021, 07:11:16 PM
I have been using Linux Mint in LiveCD mode for online shopping/banking a couple years now. Recently found out it is moving to the darkside (adding telemetry), so I am looking for a replacement. I have ordered LiveCD of Linux Lite 5.2 off eBay for a test drive; due to arrive in a month or less. Looks like I will be needing help with the firewall. According to Google it's very different from what I'm used to.

@trimis
Welcome...

I haven't looked at ebay but please make sure your purchase is from @Jerry or Linux Lite...
You can always download and create your LiveCD or LiveUSB or via the shop at www.linuxliteos.com (http://www.linuxliteos.com)

There is a detailed manual linked in the header but if you do have questions, ask away.

Sorry, I did not know Linux Lite sold their own DVDs. Last distro I recall doing that was DSL some years ago, so I don't bother looking for this anymore. Guess I should re-think that. I used to buy from OSDisc, but they are gone now, so I switched to eBay. Never had a problem yet. I have a DVD burner, but XP Pro is a major pain to do this....like a ten to twenty step process just to burn a movie, and I suspect doing a bootable CD/DVD is worse. Maybe when I transition to Win 7 (I hear it has simplified the process), I will look into it again.

I just looked at the firewall stuff from the manual you mentioned. Way different from what Google was saying (it was made out to be complex). Looks about the same as Linux Mint, but without the INCOMING: deny and OUTGOING: allow options. I am seeing a lot of emphasis on a password....anything I need to know for using the LiveCD mode?
