Title: ( SOLVED ) Ubuntu Software ???
Post by: oxo42 on October 29, 2015, 10:46:23 AM
I have just moved from LL 1.0.8 to LL 2.6 there are a few programes that I used with 1.0.8 / they are ie:-

1) Ubuntu Software Centre
2) Ubuntu Tweak
3) Lite Software Centre

I would very much like to install these programes / but it poses a few questions,

1) Is it safe to do so ?
2) If it's safe how do I get them ?

                                           Thanks.

Lite Software is already included with the LL 2.6 distro.

You can install Ubuntu Software Center via Install/Remove Software (aka Synaptic Package Manager), but I would recommend using the Lubuntu Software Center.  It's faster.  All apps listed are free, and it doesn't have this hanging over it's head: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2974148/software/canonical-is-letting-the-ubuntu-software-center-wither-and-die.html.  Just open Install/Remove Software (Menu, System, Install/Remove Software), and search for lubuntu-software-center.  Mark it for installation and click on apply.

Or a faster way to do the above would be to open a terminal and enter the following code:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-software-center
You can get Ubuntu Tweak from here:  http://ubuntu-tweak.com/

 HI
The installed LITE SOFTWARE only gives you a limited choice thats why I wanted the LITE SOFTWARE CENTER bigger selection.
Can I use the same Terminal proccess to find and install Lite Software Center as you suggested for Lubuntu.
                      Thanks.

I've never heard of Lite Software Center.  But a web search led me to this, which isn't affiliated with Linux Lite:  https://launchpad.net/light-software-center.

I started with LL 1.08 too and have used each version to the current version. Jerry wrote before basically that Ubuntu Software Center and Lubuntu Software Center installed unwanted (and unknown stuff). I think the Lite Software Center was a LL face on the Lubuntu Software Center. Is Ubuntu Tweak the same as Unity Tweak. I learned to live without the software center when LL dropped it by searching on the internet for programs then using Synaptic to install them. Lite Software was a nice addition that came a few versions down from 1.08.

XFCE can be tweaked easily without any extra program. As posted before you can get the Ubuntu Software Center, Lubuntu Software Center, and Ubuntu Tweak but I don't recommend it.

No offense, but if you want that stuff, you might as well use Xubuntu. Doing so, you would give up Lite software and tools, and this great forum where you even get help from the creator of LL, etc. I think you will be happier with Linux Lite than a Ubuntu flavor. I know I am.  8)
