Don't think it's a good idea installing a rather old version of Adobe Reader. Especially since there's a lot of security breaches here and there with Adobe's PDF reader. And the downside is, whatever applies for Windows, also applies for Linux since basically the Windows and Linux version are basically operating the same way.

Foxit Reader does have a new Linux version now which you can download and install. It's rather fast and simple which i like a lot.

Hello!

You can try Adobe Reader 9.5.5 (last Linux version) natively in Linux:

If THAT won't "git 'er done", perhaps Adobe Reader *11* in wine?

i use a collecton of pdf files on a teachers edition cd rom, where 1 pdf is a table of contents with links to a pdf for each chapter.  then each chapter page pdf has links to each chapter assignment pdf.  i cannot get a linux pdf reader to go through the links completely to get to the assignment files.

tried evince, okular, foxit, adobe 5.0 [useless] + 9.0 in wine, google docs, libreoffice 5.0, imagemagic

i don't need a pdf creator/manipulator.  i just want a pdf reader that works in linux lite with the ability to open the linked files, all of which are also pdfs.  can you please help?  i would really hate to be forced back to windows over an issue this simple.
