If you are installing from Lite Software, there is no need to pay any attention to it's status in Synaptic. We're talking 2 distinctly different methods of installing software here. If the program you need to install is in Lite Software, please install it from there. Cheers.

To justme2,

My experience with Wine would show it in Synaptic.  In Synaptic, if you're not seeing any version of Wine installed, it would seem something is off with the Wine installation.

Consider removing and reinstalling Wine using Lite Software.  My guess is downgrading to LL 2.0 isn't the way to go.

Thanks for your response. Jerry's recommendation is NOT to uninstall wine and to only use the version in Lite Software, but it definitely does not show as installed in Synaptic, although I'm using it!
$ wine --version shows it to be 1.7.30

....later: I have had confirmation from the program developer, that he can correct the problem caused by a wine update, within his software so I will mark this as SOLVED.

Thanks to all.

And the application is? FYI, don't uninstall or touch Wine, only use the one available in Lite Software. Cheers :)

The application is 'LibertyBASIC booster', a BASIC compiler and WINE was installed through Lite Software. Looks like I may have to revert to LL2.0  :(

I'm having problems running a windows app in WINE, which until recently, worked ok but now crashes when attempting to load a file. Searching wine in synaptic, shows the latest version available but does not show any wine version installed. Can I safely re-install the latest wine through synaptic or will that mess up future Lite Updates? The application is a specialist one with no Linux substitute, so I must run it in wine.

TIA for any assistance.
