Re. Chrome 32bit - https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-topic/so-what-are-we-going-to-do-about-this/msg20345/#msg20345 hope this settles it once and for all.

So, NO 32bit Chrome for anyone on Linux, the end, that is all :)

This does not mean a can of beans to me. I could care less what downloads from Google Chrome site provides as I do not need them.
Maybe others do. I do not how ever. That does not mean 32 bit chrome builds are not supported. Distros support their own builds. Not google.

EDIT: MY BAD. I do own a Chromebook that runs ChromeOS. Seems like google keeps it updated just fine.
So I guess I should care just a little bit. But if they PMEOFF. Seabios and Linux install. Here I come.

We intend to continue supporting the 32-bit build configurations on Linux to support building Chromium. If you are using Precise, we’d recommend that you to upgrade to Trusty.

Though I read it differently.

I install chromium and pepperflashplayer-nonfree from linux-lite synaptic package manager. It updates just fine. I run 32 bit.
Others are welcome to do as they wish.

Found the following thread which was posted to the Chromium-dev mailing list by Google’s Dirk Pranke which suggests that Google Chrome will no longer offer support  for ANY 32 bit systems.

Re: Updates to Google Chrome Linux support

Can someone please clarify that this is an end to ALL 32-bit x86 Linux distributions?

That is correct, we will no longer be distributing any official Google Chrome 32-bit
x86 builds, regardless of distro or version of distro.

Separately, we are dropping support for Precise and wheezy for the 64-bit x86-64 builds as well.

It will be possible for distros to continue to build and publish their own versions of Chromium
for either 32-bit or 64-bit as long as they wish to do so.

The last sentence is confusing. I manage a lot of 32-bit Trusty netbooks.  Did you mean to say we recommend you upgrade to 64-bit Trusty?

You will either need to upgrade to 64-bit Trusty (if your hardware is capable of it) and 64-bit Google Chrome,
or use a 32-bit distro-provided version of Chromium.

I hope that clarifies things.

Hi Everyone,

To provide the best experience for the most-used Linux versions, we will end support for Google Chrome on 32-bit Linux, Ubuntu Precise (12.04), and Debian 7 (wheezy) in early March, 2016.  Chrome will continue to function on these platforms but will no longer receive updates and security fixes.

We intend to continue supporting the 32-bit build configurations on Linux to support building Chromium. If you are using Precise, we’d recommend that you to upgrade to Trusty.

Kind Regards,

i am running LL 2.6 [32]on an old netbook that cannot run a 64 bit os.
should i just abandon google chrome?

LL 2.6 (and all other 2.x series of LL) are based on the "Trusty" version of Ubuntu.  If I'm reading quote from Google engineer provided by rokytnji correctly, 32-bit Chrome for "Trusty" and newer releases will still be supported, so no need for you to worry.

P.s.  Regarding things like CCleaner and defragmenting:  as Nomko said, not as necessary in Linux as in Windows.  Lite Cleaner tool is available in the Menu for basic cleaning operations if you want it.  (Would recommend you use that instead of Bleachbit.  Bleachbit can cause problems if you are new to Linux and randomly use it to clean things you don't really understand.  Various forums are full of posts from people who broke things that way.)  Defragging the hard drive is not something you need to do at all.  Linux file system works differently than Windows and only under extremely rare circumstances would you have problems with fragmented files.

That tells me it is killing 32 bit support for just older releases that are reaching EOL soon any ways.

1.  google chrome will stop supporting linux lite in march 2016.  what will this mean to us?
No, Google stops support for 32-bit Chrome. This means that, if you're running a 32-bit system, you will not get any updates for Google Chrome beginning from March 2016. This is reasonable since today's systems are 64-bit. It is not only Linux Lite, also other 32-bit Linux distro's ar suffering this issue. What does tis mean for a 32-bit user? Easy and simple, with each new Chrome update for 64-bit systems only, the 32-bit Chrome version will be more and more insecure to use. All security bugs wil not be updated.

2.  how do i get chrome to recognize my microphone?
I think you want some websites to recognize your microphone? Can you  explain us what you already tried yourself?

Quote
3.  i did an update and now i have an app called nepomuk cleaner.  what is it and how do i use it?
Did you installed any KDE application? Nepomuk is part of KDE which will be installed if any non-KDE user installs a KDE application. Else there's no reason to get Nepomuk in a Xfce environment.

Else there's also the possibility that Nepomuk was installed when you installed an application called zeitgeist or zeitgeist comes pre-installed (not sure about this).

Some more info about Nepomuk: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEPOMUK_(software)

4.  is there a linux alternative to windows compatible freemake converter?
Check here: http://www.linuxalt.com/

Quote
5.  does linux need ccleaner or a defrag program?
Not really no. Basically you must ask yourself the following 2 questions:
1) can you run few commands for occasional package cleaning, manually deleting browser history etc.
2) do you want to run from place to place and you just want one tool to rule them all where you can clean up all the suggested things in one (or few) click(s).

Linux alternative for CCleaner is Bleachbit, another tool i'm using is deborphan. Last mentioned tool requires a deeper insight in Linux and is more meant for the experienced user! Bleachbit works with a GUI environment and has an easy-to-use interface.

There are some terminal commands which cleans your system, check here: https://sites.google.com/site/easytipsforlinux/clean-up-linux
