I first used LL at version 3.2. All upgrades to 3.8 worked just fine. I then installed v 4.0. Now I am trying to upgrade to v 4.2, but so far have failed. When I try the various routes I just get told that I am about to upgrade to version 3.8!! Right. One comment for any problems with moving to v 42. suggested that I could wait for 24 hours and try again. That was three days ago, and it still will not work for me. I checked to see which version I have of lite-upgrade-series and it is still at version 3. I am not sure where to look next.

Couple things, if you are still on 3 series it does not upgrade to the next series.
Also if you installed ll4.0 that was a beta version, beta versions do not have upgrade paths.
You confirm your series...
cat /etc/llver
I dont recall if beta is explicitly called out any where...

I am on version 4.0 which I installed from the full version, not the beta one. It still wants to upgrade me to version 3.8. I have never had this problem with the 3 series.

We need all of the output from the following:
cat /etc/llver
cat /etc/issue
apt policy lite-upgrade*
-
cat /etc/llver No such file or directory
cat /etc/issue Linux Lite 3.0 LTS \n \l
apt policy lite-upgrade* This gives me a long list of ppa's and repo's which don't relate to Linux Lite

Can you provide a screenshot of your desktop with one of the Linux Lite wallpapers showing please.

I have taken a screenshot as requested, but it is a JPG image, which is not allowable to be sent with this forum. What type of file should I choose?

Jpg is fine. Look under Introductions forum for Forum Posting Guidelines.
