Title: Install RELEASE
Post by: Crazy Larry on July 06, 2015, 03:37:09 AM
I noticed in my menu bar      Install RELEASE   and it says something about installing LL permanently.   Is this the newest release because I have 2.4 which I thought was the latest release.  Sorry to be a pain but I've gone thru a lot just to get LL installed on a USB stick.
Thanks everybody,
Larry

Can you post a screenshot so we can see what you're referring to. Thank you.

I tried taking a screenshot but the menu would disappear before the picture would snap.
With  All  selected and down on the right
      Input Method
      Install Drivers
      Install Release
The  Install Release is what I'm referring to.

It appears that the "Install Release" is for the installation program used to install LL from the downloaded iso. Some one can correct me if I am wrong but it does not appear to be any kind of upgrade program as the command line for the link points to:  sh -c 'ubiquity gtk_ui'.

On a side note if you are running LL2.4 that is the latest release, 2.6 is due out in September I believe.

That menu option should not show after installation (I had the same thing after installing from live DVD)
Working from memory (mine not the computers!), but something like this, right click the menu button, select edit menu and locate the 'Install Release' tick box and clear it. Close the edit window and you should no longer see the offending entry in the menu.

Workaround: Take a camera picture.

I checked that and all the boxes of Install Release are unticked and it still shows up in the All list in Menu. Not that i find that a problem..only noticed it after reading this topic.

The sensible solution is to ignore it, this does no harm to your system.
If this really plays on your OCD, then do:

Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/applications/ubiquity.desktop

Hi,

I just checked on my system(s)
It is not showing, but it is present in the edit menu in: System and Settings
Check you have "both" unticked

Both are unticked and still it shows in menu/all. But its no problem for me, it doesnt do a thing so no need to change it.
