Post by: GordonT on June 28, 2018, 10:02:55 AM
None of the utube videos have been able to help me. Following the Ubuntu installation guides have not worked.  and the sudo  apt-get install uTorrent comes up with could not fine uTorrent in a depository. Please can some kind person point me in the right direction to how exactly I can install this uTorrent software on Linuxlite 3.8 Thanking you in anticipation...

Not sure about Linuxlite 3.8 repositories, but looks like utorrent is not in the repositories for Linuxlite 4.0 which is based on ubuntu 18.04. maybe this tutorial might help:

Thank you for your suggestion which unfortunately did not help. On further research I see that this problem exists from as far back as 2010 and seems that the Linux lite version updates have moved faster than the u Torrent suggested fixes and are always out of date..  Hate to be a bother can you please make a suggestion of any other equivalent software that I can use.  Thanking you in advance

There are a few torrent clients in the repositories which you could use sudo apt install "packagename" to install.
e.g.:
Deluge
Transmission

Personally I use rtorrent with rutorrent webui, but it does take a little work to set up as a web-server with php has to be set up aswell.

The simplest choice would be Deluge or Transmission which are similar to utorrent.

I suppose really the only caveat is where you intend to download from. Many private torrentsites have a whitelist/blacklist of torrent clients they will allow/ban, so you might want to google the two clients I have mentioned and then check with the sites you want to use to see if they are allowed.

Hi @GordonT --
I'm not a frequent torrent user, so I'm not an advocate for any particular torrent software. But the easiest to install with Linux Lite would be Deluge. It's offered in the Lite Software app for easy installation.
Start Menu > Settings > Lite Software

Thank You. I was so busy trying to install uTorrent  It was like being in the forest and not seeing the wood for all the trees. you are absolutely right. Installing Deluge was simply and straight forward.  Giving me the chance to try
using Torrents. At this stage any help I get is really and truly appreciated

@GordonT No problem! Glad to hear you got it working.
The Lite Software tool is always a great place to start for adding software. Everything listed there is known to work well with Linux Lite. When I need something not in the Lite Software list, my next stop is "Install/Remove Software" (the Synaptic package manager).
