Anyone here used FreeOffice? Thoughts?

I did or should I say I tried to. I installed it but never managed to get it to work. I can't remember exactly what the issue was but it didn't work for me. Just to be clear, when you say "freeoffice" you mean this https://www.freeoffice.com/en/  right? I think libreoffice is the best MO alternative out there.
Without each others help there ain't no hope for us :)

Now a Manjaro opt-in. Not all features are free. Last I read was about $40 for upgrade. For real business office work seems pointless to me given that LO already handles heavy db work better than MS does. I've not used it so there may be other better opinions. Apparently the Manjaro community expressed enough interest in it to want the option. Not a fan of either.

Hi all!

Most time I "needed" Office for users or myself, it was for Outlook using an Exchange/Office365 server.

Otherwise Libre Office is great as a Word, Excel, PowerPoint alternative, I personnaly nerver had trouble with compatiility when saving to .docx, .xlsx or .pptx formats.
Yes, even on Windows ;) .
Note : I have not used Access or Libre alternative though.

I personally prefer using wine but some times you might encounter Microsoft office error 30034-4 which can be fixed by simply turning off your virus protection.

I have successfully done 2 years of college - which requires all term papers and such to be in Microsoft Office format - using LibreOffice instead!  It takes some doing, but I wrote a step-by-step how-to at https://technophobeconfessions.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/converting-libreoffice-writer-documents-to-microsoft-format/.  It's older, but it still works as good on Linux Lite as it did on Xubuntu when I was a Xubu user.

It depends on what version you already own for whether or not it will run on Linux.

I'm fairly new on the forum here, but thought I'd throw my two cents worth in. pradyut.pal, are you at all familiar with LibreOffice? Mike (m654321) mentioned it in his post. If you're just looking for an office suite to use, LibreOffice is great. On the other hand, if you happen to be a proficient user of MS Office, then installing a version of it via Wine like the guys have already explained probably is the best thing for you. I have found that LibreOffice seems to be a bit easier for me to understand and use. I'm a VERY casual user of any office suite so I'm not about to argue or discuss the pros and cons of any suite. I just thought I'd mention LibreOffice once more for your consideration.

@torreydale

Thanks for mentioning that  -  I had a brief look on the web and found this:
https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/Office-2007-End-of-Life-roadmap-416c54d8-823c-4def-bb7a-6a9b14ef2745
which states that Office 2007 is no longer supported at all with Microsoft updates after the 10 October 2017.

At the last look, I noticed that Play-on-Linux will install up to Office 2010 ... maybe it has even updated to more recent Office versions since then, so hopefully pradyut.pal can install a more recent version than 2007.

64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung netbook) installed in Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work

Welcome pradyut.pal to Linux Lite - LL is a great operating system and I'm sure you'll enjoy the journey with this distro, and the ever friendly & very supportive LL forum community here  :)

I have installed Microsoft Office on LL - you need to use Play On Linux which is a software package you can install from Lite Software (within System directory) or from Install Software (under Favourites) under  Menu. When I installed Microsoft Office 2007 on LL,  I used this weblink and it worked well:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/easily-install-microsoft-office-2007-linux/

Play-on-Linux will, by default,  display the Microsoft Word, Excel, etc, icons as desktop shortcuts.

Normally we use LibreOffice on our laptops here at home, and usually there isn't a problem with compatibility with reading Microsoft Office documents with LibreOffice, and vice versa.  However, sometimes my son found that when he downloaded tabulated data for his school homework, from Microsoft Word into LibreOffice Writer, the tables were sometimes not centred properly on the page.  Now and then, there can be a similar issue with Powerpoint and LibreOffice Impress, though in general the compatibility  with presentation slides seems to be fine.

I hope this helps a bit, have a good day, and welcome again ...
