Title: How to Install Java for Firefox In Linux Lite?
Post by: N4RPS on March 06, 2014, 06:39:15 AM
Hello!

I've tried installing Java 7 from the repositories and from Oracle's tarball, and have enabled the Firefox plugin for it. However, when I go to Oracle's test page, it's still saying there's a problem. I can't figure out what that problem may be to save my life.

Uncle!

This is covered in the Help Manual under Software, Other software.

Hello!

I RTM'd. Still no go.

Maybe I trashed something before I posted, so I did a complete reinstall and tried adding it again. Oracle wouldn't successfully verify Java, but another testing site did.

Maybe when I update everything, it'll work right. If not, it's no big deal. I don't REALLY *NEED* Java at the moment, and, for now, can work around it.

Go figure....

Java for web is listed under - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#other (scroll down) - "Java plugin for Firefox and Chromium - Enables the viewing and running of java applets."

Hello!

Yes, the procedure listed in the manual was the one I followed. That procedure didn't work, so I did what I do WHENEVER *ANYTHING* stumps me: I started Googling. I found THIS URL:

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=231503

The procedure spelled out at that URL did the trick. Oracle's Java check (JRE 7 Update 51, the latest one) now passes...
