Title: FSLINT via Synaptic
Post by: newtusmaximus on May 08, 2014, 06:26:22 AM
Have downloaded the FSLINT from "ALL" on  Synaptic.
Got the following synaptic report  after downloading all  dependencies etc.

"W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-lts-raring/linux-headers-3.8.0-39_3.8.0-39.57~precise1_all.deb

However Synaptic shows green box after download and appears to be working.

Done the Broken Packages routine and again failed to download those missing. "generic kernel headers and image" ??

QUESTION

What is the significance of the report above and does it make the use of the fslint "as is" unsafe/unreliable.

Thanks.

Don't think those messages affected your install of the fslint package.  Looks like maybe one of the servers was not working at the time.  (One that apparently didn't affect your download since Synaptic showed it as installed when you were done.)

Open Synaptic again and hit the reload button.  See if you still get error messages.  If "yes", then follow instructions here to pick a different server and see if that solves problem:  https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#sources (https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#sources).

Tks Gold_Finger.   Went to synaptic and reinstalled FSLINT over what was already there. Ran smoothly and quickly. No error message this time re broken connections . Some days have passed since original installation so server issues must have been resolved.  BTW, I have used FSLINT  "as was" in the meantime without apparent problems.  Very useful package for clearing out the "dross" of a backup ITB drive and so regained valuable storage capacity.

Yes, every once and a while things like that happen if you hit a time that servers are down for maintenance, etc.  Usually you can just wait 30-60 minutes and try again.

Have never used fslint myself -- maybe I'll have to give it a look now that you've brought it up.
