Thanks Linux Noob, but I have tried all that. Filed reports tried the various suggestions however nothing seems to solve the problem. After searching the internet and various other forums it seems I am not alone with this problem. For now Google Chrome will be my default browser. Everything just works. No spending a lot of time trying to fix this and that. I had trouble in the past with freeze ups where nothing worked and had to use the REISUB Alt-Prt SCT option to get out of it. I managed to solve that however I don`t remember what I did to solve it. They say there are two things that go when you get old. First is the memory and I don`t remember what the second is. Thanks again.

Sorry to say Firefox still crashes. Refreshed, upgraded to 46.0. turned off hardware acceleration, default running HTLM5. Crashes after 30 mins. You Tube only. I can`t seem to solve it, thanks for your interest.

Crashes on startup after the update to Firefox 46 on OS X
This article only applies to Firefox users on Mac OS X.

Some Mac users may have the potentially unwanted software, PremierOpinion, present in their system. PremierOpinion hooks into the browser and causes consistent crashing at startup after updating to Firefox version 46.

Affected users should perform a scan for malware with an external tool like the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac or follow a manual removal guide to get rid of PremierOpinion, see: http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-premier-opinion.

If you need further assistance or have technical issues with a different crash, you can refer to Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes.

What computer are you on?

"about:support" typing this into your address textbox will give you the page where you can look at various troubleshoot info and there are crash reports you can look at and maybe post here so we can have an idea what your dealing with.

I'm just a noob here but I'm sure other with more info could help out better

Thank you torreydale for your suggestions. As another try I went back and followed your original suggestion and it worked this time. I set Firefox to Default which I had tried before only this time with the result I was looking for. After update to 46., you tube started crashing again.

You mentioned:   I have tried all the suggested fixes on Firefox and nothing seems to solve he problem.  If you can recall, what are the suggested fixes you tried?

Have you tried turning off hardware acceleration?

Thanks for your reply. It did work OK in the past and I have tried both HTLM 5 and Adobe Flash, it still crashes either way. Tried default and everything else they recommend for a work around and thirty minutes and sometimes even less, the computer completely shuts down. Does not happen on Hulu just certain videos.
Google Chrome is fine, Epiphany is fine, this is a puzzle  for me. After this happens it takes two or three times to start back up as it will shut down again even before the it gets started. LL 2.8 64 AMD HP desktop. This incidentally has happened on other O/S such as Mint or Ubuntu and only on Firefox.

Are you viewing YouTube via Adobe Flash or HTML5?  You can find this out by right clicking on the video.  The bottom option of your right click will show whether it is Adobe Flash or HTML5.

Has Firefox performed YouTube well for you in the past?

Have you tried restoring Firefox to the Default settings?  (Preferences > General > Restore to Default)

New problem on Firefox. You tube crashes after about 30 mins or so. Shuts down the computer and I have tried all the suggested fixes on Firefox and nothing seems to solve he problem. Not a big deal as it does not happen on Google or Epiphany which leads me to conclude the problem is with Firefox. Anyone else with this problem? Refreshed, disabled add on`s etc. tried all that.
