(Okay, I was about to post this and after I pressed back because POST gave me an error, poof! Gone. Sigh)
Sigh. Now, this is really bugging me after I install Linux Lite. Dropbox's Indicator is not working. I can't right click and even left click, I can't simply interact with the indicator. It has an indicator on the taskbar but it's not working. My LL is installed fresh, version 2.8 and I am loving this distro, but if I can't solve this, I may be pushed to install another one (please no).
- I tried reinstalling the app but no avail.
- Tried installing libindicator1, nope.
- Tried downloading the deb file from dropbox website, naaaah.
- Also installed dropbox from lite software. Actually, this is the first thing I did
Can someone help me solve this? Here's a screenshot:

Uninstall Dropbox using Lite Software.
Open your File Manager. Hit Ctrl H to show hidden files and folders.
Remove the .dropbox folder if it exists.
Reboot
Run Install Updates
Install Dropbox using Lite Software

Did that just now, no avail. Ugh, dropbox's problem maybe?

It isn't Dropbox. Mine is ok and I installed via Lite Software. Search the forum for the dropbox Thunar plugin.

Dropbox thunar plugin gets automatically installed when you install Dropbox via Lite Software.

Right. I know. Just a shot in the dark since the user was having an issue with the panel indicator and right click options.

All good torreydale, I'm just trying to avoid potential software version conflicts which can compound an issue.

Still no working. I have the thunar plugin installed already. Also tried turning off compositing. This is exhausting.

To help everyone know what is installed please run the following in a terminal and post back with the results.
apt list --installed dropbox*

Hmmm.. i though i replied to this topic. Seems my post is either removed (which i hope i wasn't since that would be very non-constructive) or got lost on the digital highway.....???

This is a solution which could solve your problem.
- Open a terminal
- type the following command:
sudo apt-get install libappindicator1
- Follow the instructions given in the terminal
- Now type the following command:
dropbox stop && dropbox start
- If above command doesn't work, log out and log back in.
- If it still not working, let us know!

Since the weekend, I've seen this now on a couple of computers. What used to be the dropbox indicator is now a red circle with a diagonal line through it. I can still see the Thunar right click options, but the dropbox panel indicator is just a black background, and in the foreground there is a red circle with a red diagonal line through it. And it is inactive. It's basically a dead panel indicator.

I can reproduce this by installing from Lite Software. Will look into it and report back.

I removed Dropbox via Lite Software. Then I Moved to Trash the following folders, but I'm thinking I should have just deleted them:
.dropbox
.dropbox-dist
When I reinstalled Dropbox using Lite Software, I got the following popup. I have since installed that python-gpgme package:

Also of note:
I no longer have the Thunar plugin right click options.

Temporary workaround until Dropbox provides update:
Menu > Settings > Startup > Application Autostart. Remove existing Dropbox entry, create a new one:
Dropbox
Dropbox
bash -c 'export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="" && dropbox start -i'
Logout/in.

I'm using LL 2.6 LTS and have found a way to make this work using some of what has already been documented, however, I don't want Dropbox running all of the time. I only want to load it when I want to upload items to share with friends and relatives. After the upload completes, I typically shut down Dropbox.
Using terminal as others have described is a bit cumbersome, so I decided to modify the original item in the Menu instead. I followed the steps below:
From the Desktop, Right click on the Menu button on the left end of the taskbar
Left click on Edit Applications to open the Main Menu window
Left click on Internet in the left column of the Main Menu
Look for Dropbox on the right column and left click it to highlight it
Left click on the Properties button on the right edge of the Main Menu to open the Launcher Properties
Keep Name: Dropbox
Replace Command: bash -c 'export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="" && dropbox start -i'
Keep Comment: Sync your files across computers and to the web
Make sure the box is UnChecked next to Launch in Terminal?
Click the OK button
That's it !
So far, it works like a dream and the icon comes up in the task bar like it should and I can use the menu and quit Dropbox the way I always have by clicking on the Dropbox Icon in the task bar by the clock and then selecting Quit Dropbox when I'm done using it.

libappindicator1 is not required.
Can you explain why not? Is it already installed by default under LL?

I would like to add that you must right click on the dropbox icon in the tray (after adding the autostart that Jerry posted and logging out/in), choose preferences and UNCHECK start dropbox on system startup. If you do not do this your application autostart dropbox modification will be returned to the "dropbox -i" command and the tray icon will be broken again on next reboot. It was driving me crazy wondering why the setting I changed kept getting reverted. Even if I deleted the dropbox autostart it would be re-created on next boot. Ugh. Turn off the preference and then use Jerry's command in the autostart and it works fine.

Having the same issue on Xubuntu. I will try the workaround.
Anyway... you can also go into a terminal window and use the dropbox command to check the status. (dropbox status)
