Not sure that I am writting on right place.
First I am new in linux, maybe I install aplications on wrong way...
I have often disapear aplications from linux 4.2beta.
Simple like they was never installed on my lite before, just empty icon.
For example playonlinux, viber, etcher...
I yust install them again and they work for some time again until disapear.
Is this problem with beta lite, or I install them on wrong way?

Example screenshots please.

@newonlinux
Hi there, just quick though. Have you installed Linux Lite on a hard drive or using it from USB directly?
If from USB, it's called the "Live" version and it is like running from a DVD and changes are not kept after a reboot.
I read that you can install to another USB key if you have two but I have never tried myself.
Cheers!

I am noob, but not so big. I install lite and use him for few days, but at least once a day some aplications just disapear.
No trace like was never before installed. For example right now playonlinux what I install few times from Synaptic.
Look on my screenshot, I start game but cant go in because playonlinux disapear.

I'll test this on Playonlinux over next few days and let you know. I am installing Playonlinux from Lite Software.
-
Mine was from synaptic, but will now also install from lite software to see if there will be difference.
Btw maybe is there some connection with bug on my system, when I uninstal unwanted software
for example simple-scan icon in menus stay. But on other distro always icon are removed on uninstall.
Update
Look like I find some connection, when I install playonlinux my viber now disapear.
I download viber from download.cdn.viber.com/cdn/desktop/Linux/viber.deb and for install it I use only
right click and istall.

That's because we rename many Menu names to make it easier for people to understand linux programs. Linux Lite is a gateway OS, for Windows refugees, we don't expect linux people to go messing with our heavily modified DE, removing default apps.

I installed Viber and Playonlinux, no problems.

Oh look like there is problem, this installation is much complicated for us new linux users, and on manjaro dont have problem
of that kind, look like ubuntu distros need another aproach.
Thx in any case.
-
@newonlinux I think you will find Manjaro has an advantage on Ubuntu in the AUR (Arch User Repository). Simply put an ordinary user like ourselves will have downloaded the program, installed it with all it's dependencies/tweaks and then created an installation package which is submitted to the Arch devs and if good enough, added to the AUR. Hence the one-click solution.
Ubuntu only has it's main and partner repositories and doesn't allow users to submit packages like that. So if it ain't in the ubuntu repos we are stuck with doing the complicated install ourselves.
-
Now I understand. Manjaro is simpler to settup and install apps, but I like more litelinux.
And apps are here much faster starting and viber is more stable.
Pitty i cant here uninstall all unwanted software (remove icons from menus),
,because I like clean and little as posible system can be :)
-
@newonlinux You can uninstall any unwanted software, I'm sure Jerry wouldn't mind as that is the essence of linux, making the system your own......
To remove icons of uninstalled software look for the .desktop file for that particular program and move or delete if you don't intend to reinstall.
the .desktop files can be found in a hidden folder, namely .local/share/applications in your home folder or /usr/share/applications.
I suggest create a folder in your home folder such as "old-progs" and move these .desktop files there, then if you choose to reinstall you can move them back :)
-
Thx vera much, I will try that.
Btw I think will switch from w7 to linux lite.
