LL2.0 Catfish and LCleaner upgrade - basic Kernel, Updates run. Suddenly lost Thunderbird start up when clicking Thunderbird in Whisker menu. Any ideas please. TB has been running fine for months.
However on shutting down LL2.0, Thunderbird screen briefly appears during shut off routine?

Hi newtusmaximus,
What is the result if you launch Thunderbird from the application launcher?
Here's how to use the application launcher
1. alt+f2 or menu > all > run program
2. application finder window opens
3. type the word 'thunderbird', no quotes
4. click the launch button
Please post back with the results.

Thanks Scott(0). Followed procedure as above. Nothing happens.
Brief view of open Thunderbird on last stages of shut down procedure .
BTW the whisker menu appears to be working for launching other programs such as OPERA browser etc.

Was Thunderbird removed somehow by any chances !
Type in thunderbird onto Whisker s Run Program if it s in there or if it has a child process result .

Synaptic shows TB 1.31.3.0 present. Just to be sure I have reinstalled TB . Menu/all/run program/thunderbird/ Launch still no presence.

Hi Newtusmaximus,
Since reinstalling ThunderBird didn't work, I would try purging it first, with this command:
sudo apt-get purge thunderbird
And then reinstalling it again with this command:
sudo apt-get install thunderbird
Caution:
There's a chance here for data to be lost so please consider that before running the purge command above.

I really don't know what could be causing this, but I'm just going to throw out some complete guesses here.
However on shutting down LL2.0, Thunderbird screen briefly appears during shut off routine?
If I understand that quote correctly, T-Bird won't run from the menu but when you shutdown computer its screen briefly appears for an instance during shutdown. That makes me wonder if it is somehow started in the background and thus won't start again? I don't know -- just a random thought. Just for the hell of it, go to Menu -> Settings -> Session and Startup -> Session -> and click "Clear saved sessions". Then shutdown/reboot computer and try T-Bird again.
LL2.0 Catfish and LCleaner upgrade - basic Kernel, Updates run.
I'm not sure what you meant by this. Are you saying you upgraded to a new kernel? If so, can you try booting into the prior working kernel and see if T-Bird works again when booted with that?

Purging and Install procedures outlined above do not solve problem. HTOP gives a lot of data - unsure how to copy/upload this for inspection.
The “cleared saved sessions” route appears to have worked :) Also pleased that data originally on TB (emails etc.) before the problem have not been lost, even after all the various options above that were since tried.
Thanks to all, Will mark as solved. However not too sure why it occurred in the first place??
BTW to clarify, LL2.0 32 bit, original kernel (3.13?), additional software – catfish, cleaner – added, and updates added regularly. Default layout.

Well -- I got lucky with that guess.
But you newtusmaximus deserve some of the credit for that guess. Your original post is a good example of why it's important to post as many details as possible when asking for help. If you hadn't added that little detail that T-Bird flashed briefly during shutdown, I never would have thought to ask you to clear saved sessions. (So you get a "Thank" mark for giving good info on your post.)
What probably happened to cause the problem is you shutdown the computer while T-Bird was still open. (Possibly on another workspace and you forgot about it being there. Something I've done many times myself.) If you have the "Save Session" box checked during shutdown (or if you accidentally click it), then the next time you start the computer I believe that means it's going to try starting whatever programs you had running at the time you shutdown. Next time you shut down computer, on the window that pops up with Shutdown, Logout, etc. -- near bottom you'll see "Save session". Just make sure it's not checked if don't want to use that feature.

As a follow on, continuing the same theme :-

Above is a link to a post/question that I asked some time ago. Again an instance of disappearing Thunderbird and sometimes Firefox. On this occasion it was on early days LL 2.0 std kernel final ( not beta) 32 bit but on this same computer .. So reinstalled from scratch and it still periodically occurred, but not every day :(
Also happened on a desktop (twin Intel processor + 3GB RAM, periodically running Mint 13 Maya.
Any ideas. Is this an occasional "bug" ??

Wonder if it s a Mozilla bug here .
