[SOLVED] Linux lite system requirements

N4RPS:
Hello!

Given those specs, you should have no problem running any of the 32-bit versions on that machine. You can use any one of many utilities to install the ISO to a USB flash drive, which gets you around the 700MB limit.

If your BIOS does not support booting from USB, a utility called Plop Boot Manager can be burned to a floppy or CD to allow a boot from a USB drive...

Hello cypher000,
I run LL 2.0 on a P4 with 1GB ram and 40GB hdd. I do not have any other OS installed on that hdd. It is not made by Dell.
You state you need an "actual CD", PM me a UK address to send the LL 2.0 CD to for you.

cypher000,

Linux Lite 2.0 will just barely fit on a CD, so you should be okay.  Also, it should run fine on your machine.  I've got it on a very similar system with only 512MB of RAM and it runs better than XP did.  Due to age of processor and other components, streaming videos from Youtube may be a little choppy (especially HD videos, or in full-screen mode), but not much you can do about that except get a newer computer.  Other than that, things should be fine.

Are you planning to keep Windows on that 20GB drive, or are you looking to replace it?

Go ahead and download the ISO file, burn it to a blank CD, then boot computer with it and test it out.  [Word of warning:  on older system like yours, it will run pretty slow off of the live CD.  Don't worry so much about that -- just check to see if things work (browser, office program, etc.).  Once installed to hard drive it will be much, much quicker than the CD.]

Hi Walt.  I think you should be able to install and run the 32-bit version of LL2.0 on your machine.  The system requirements are:
700 MHz processor+
512 MB RAM+
5 GB of hard-drive space+
VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution
Either a CD drive or a USB port for the iso

You can download the ISO file then burn it as an image to a CD.  The download is available at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxlite/files/2.0/linux-lite-2.0-32bit.iso/download

You will find full instructions at:
