Had all the same problems in french as you, except the Keyboard part. I usually put "Canadian Multilingual" and not "French Canadian".

For the install part, I would suggest doing the install in english first (Canadian Multilingual keyboard is OK). THEN, from the Lite Welcome screen, do the steps in order. When selecting languages "English" is the last active on the list (everything below is deactivated. So Put French(Canada) on top then English. Apply to all system. On reboot, do updates again and when asked DO NOT change folder names, this is broken (I do not know why but I'm guessing the "é" could be the culprits).

Maybe Mint has more complete translations (and biggers teams/funds) but Linux Lite has everything else better. ;)

Hello, I don't know if that post goes in the french forum portion but that language part seems to be deserted. Anyway being very experience with Mint, here is couple of thing I went through with my first Lite installation.

- the installer crash close to the end but having restarted it, it finally went through.
- first thing you notice, unlike Mint, the OS installation is not in the language you choose at install. Puzzling.
- Fair enough so the welcome screen mention something about languages. I selected that, then it offer to install updates which I did. After that nothing else but after a while I found out that this windows is scrollable (not obvious) and you can find that section further down.
- It then ask to update language files, ok then proceed to set my language (French Canadian). Reboot, mostly ok but my French Canadian keyboard is still in English. Found the keyboard setting and the default had to be deselect for some reason. French keyboard is installed but Alt-characters do not work. Fiddle around with "change page formatting and Compose keys (don't know what that does) but after resetting it to default, French Canadian I presume) it work fine.
- first boot, the name of the home folders has to change to French names. Select Yes. It work mostly but every time I login I have a message about "configured download folder does not exist, Please make sure that the Download folder exist or configure it with bluemoon-services ???. The "Download" folder is called "Téléchargements" in French. How can I get rid of this ??
- A few missing translation especially with right clicking with the mouse (Open terminal here, search here etc ...)
- Thunar system menu entries are still in English. Else here some entries are in English and menu not translated.

It seems that Lite is more oriented for English speaking users probably due to fewer developers in Linux Lite.
The rest seems to be pretty much identical to Mint Xfce which is fully translated. It is still nice to have choices,

Thanks
