Hi all,
at work i am an unix user and now i try to use linux lite at home (dual boot).
The installation was no problem. I defined a password (with ask password for login).
With this login password i can boot linux lite.
But i am not able to use this password for sudo

The only ugly incidence within the installation was that my keyboard layout was destroyed. The character on the right side were all numbers like for numlog keys. My password was nadja1a and this did work with the keys.
my laptop is sony vaio VPCEA1S1E

Hi again,
furthermore, the login after screen lock does not accept the password.
In case i choose "change user" after screen lock, i see the same login screen as for boot login but the password is not accepted.
By a reboot i can login with the password!
Very strange.
By the way, I can not change password without knowing the old one.

If it is a keyboard layout problem have you tried checking what the key presses actually do when you are typing what you think is the correct password at the times when it doesn't work ?
I mean when in the terminal just type your password at the normal prompt and at the login screen select 'other user' and type in the password at the username prompt. Do the same at a point where your password does work and compare. If different it would suggest a keyboard setting problem which you can resolve by finding the right substitute keys.
There are password recovery guides on line - I've not tried any - otherwise a reinstall.

@BluTho I'd make sure the keyboard is correctly outputting as mentioned, another try when at the login screen - type the password in the username field, confirm if its correct...
If you cannot login - perhaps the keyboard issues occurred when setting the original password -- if you want to reset the manual has instruction to do so...

thank you for the reply ...
in the shell my password did look as is should.
I guess the keybord layout is switched after login.
Therefor there is a BUG. The keybord layout must switched before login!!!
I did never see the real password on the login screen. The possibility to "Show Password" would be an improvement.
I did not jet test the keys in switch user login screen. I will do this next time.
In the end i did reinstall linux lite just now and did choose a password with unmodified keys.
After first reboot my keys were as ugly as after my first instillation as I wrote before:

My keybord has no nom lock area!
I could fix it by Menu>Settings>Keybord>Behavioral-Tab>General-Topic untick "Restore num lock state on startup"
After reboot the keys look good now.
By the way ... I did the "Restore num lock ..." also within the old installation.
LL works now. :-)

Hi All,
on login screen i did switch to another user and did try the keys:
UIO->456
JKL->123
Therefore my typed "j" in the password was a real "1"
My conclusion:
Menu>Settings>Keybord>Behavioral-Tab>General-Topic
"Restore num lock state on startup" must be off as a default for login (for my keyboard).
As I understand there are users who use the num lock key area at startup. But my keybord has no lock key.
Or easy spoken... There should be no difference in keybord layout for setting password at installation and after login.
Please, open a request to fix the problem. I am far away to overview the topic.

Glad you have sorted it out.
I would guess that the keyboard language/layout/key count mappings get applied prior to the login processes. However num lock state isn't strictly a keyboard mapping setting rather it is a user preference so it would be difficult to always ensure it is the same for all scenarios where a password is involved.
Under 'Lite Tweaks' there is a utility to enable/disable num lock at login - I guess this does the same as the Behaviour setting. Some PCs have a setting in BIOS which sets num lock to on or off during boot which adds to possible confusion.
Maybe the 'Who Are You?' screen on installation could have a confirmation/warning loop if someone sets a password with either caps lock or num lock settings active and/or the option to display in clear text what has been set as the password.
