Title: ll installation
Post by: dlaval on July 14, 2019, 11:03:50 PM
T
installed LL safe mode on HP dv2000, all works well, contuned nthe normal installation and at reboot time, I get messages.. NO IRQ HANDLER, LFENCE NOT SERIALIZING and SWITCHING TO RETPOLINE.

Then I get several screens to make the installation but nothing works.

I tried installing other version of linux on this machine with the same results.

there must be a cure but as a newbie, I am left with high hopes, thanks for any help

That message usually comes up with older AMD CPUs. It (lfence and pauses) has now become part of the S/M mitigations for AMD. It more than likely has nothing to do with your installation problems. Have you tried installing normally? (Not safe mode) Running the live ISO and then installing? It is a pretty old lap. If the live ISO runs you should be able to install. If not you may be short of RAM.

Are you sure it's not booting slowly. My old toshiba laptop show this message every time it boots up but it works. Also if your computer is old with 32bit processor you need to use 32bit version of linux lite 3.8 (or lower like 3.6, 3,4 ...) because linux lite 4.0 and newer aren't supporting 32bit hardware anymore

Plenty of RAM. Run the live ISO (not safe mode). Test it out. If it runs OK then install from there. If the live version runs you can deal with your video card afterwards if it's problematic.

Searching our Hardware Database for 'dv2000' returns overwhelming results in favour of Series 3.x
