Do you still have the old install disk or flash drive you installed from? If you do, you can do this from the command line, just type reboot after placing the media in the computer and adjust your bios to boot from the media.

You seem to be in a cycle. The easiest way around this would be to use a live linux (Linux Lite 3.4). Boot into the live desktop and not the install then copy your home folder of your hard drive to another flash drive/partition not to be formatted on next install/external hard drive. Reboot the live environment and install the upgraded version. After the install, copy the home folder you have to your hard drive where you can access it. It would be better to rename it so as not to corrupt the new home folder. You now have access to your old files. If this is acceptable then your done, if not we can get your configs into the new install later. On copying your hard drive home folder, make sure you select show hidden files and make sure you copy those also.

  • VIDEO CARD: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics

  • Kernel: 5.x
That kernel is for the LL 3.x series.  If you can get to the GRUB screen again, select the advanced option and from there select the 3.13 kernel.

I upgraded from 2.2 to 2.8 there were multiple problems as it was updating that I had to cancel out of and keep going but it finished and was fine.
I then was notified there was a new kernal to download, which I did and same thing, it said my config was altered and would I like to replace it so I did( I don't know why it was altered.
Now after restarting and updating it I cannot log in.
when I start LL it fails then restarts bringing me to the advanced options menu gnu grub version 2.2then I start ubuntu with linux 4.4.0- 79 generic recovery mode.
Then recovery menu/resume/ok exit recovery mode then the login screen page comes up(I turned that off in the previous version).
I put in my password and and it shows logging in but never does(stays on that page showing logging in. If I don't use a pw or a different one it authentication failed.

To upgrade to LL2.8 you can use "Lite Upgrade" under settings from the menu (can also be typed on the menu)

A lot of the info supplied is in the manual: https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/

Couple thing to do prior..
- Run updates (Install Updates) - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#updates
- Create a Systemback restore point (just in case) - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/tutorials.html#systembackres
- Your data (pics/music/docs) should be backed up (another drive - again on the in case)

To install LL3.4 - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/install.html#installguide

Everything on root "/" will be formatted and lost. If "/home" is on the same partition "disk" it will be as well; if separate partition it could be kept (back it up anyway) -- personally I would format "/home" crossing from 2.x to 3.4.

-- Basically the same way you installed LL2.2

Download LL3.4 https://www.linuxliteos.com/download.php
- Know if you're 32-bit or 64-bit it makes a difference
- You probably have a legacy bios (non UEFI) or are in legacy mode, as you're running LL already.
- Create a LiveUSB (See install guide)
- Boot to LiveUSB and Click Install from desktop
- Follow prompts/guide

Ok my os is ll 2.2, so I can't upgrade to the latest version.
I frequently upgrade my system but there has always been some minor problems that I was hoping an upgrade might fix.
Lite Upgrade will get you to LL2.8.. If you want LL3.4 you would need to download, create Live environment (CD/USB) and install from there in.
*Side note; as you on the 2.x series the Kernel Installer may not be listed in Live Tweaks....

@Hardcoretexan
I have LL 3.13.0-24 can I upgrade to the newest system, can I download and do an upgrade or new install.

3.13.0-24 sounds like your kernel; yes that can be updated but depending on your system newer kernels are not always better. You'll want to be cautious.

To check LL version type in terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) pressing enter after each command
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/llver
LL 3.4 is the most recent anything less can be upgraded if in the same series (3.1 can be upgraded to 3.4 - if 2.x series will require a new install)..

To check kernel version
Code: [Select]
uname -r
**Update**
To upgrade within a series you can use "Lite Upgrade" under settings from the menu (can be typed on menu)
example LL3.1 can be upgraded to LL3.4 or LL2.2 to LL2.8, you cannot upgrade from LL2.x to LL3.x

To install a newer kernel you can use "Lite Tweaks", Kernel Installer under system from menu
- Again newer kernels aren't always better - Making a Systemback backup would be advised, if a newer kernel doesn't work as expected the system can be restored to the recent restore point.
Old kernels can be removed using "Kernel Remover" from Lite Tweaks (don't remove your current in use working kernel)
