Update: Yes - that option "encrypt home folder" was the culprit. Just did a reinstall and created a dummy-user without encryption, and from that user profile I managed to create the user profile I intended to.

Suggestion: What about disabling that option under install as long as there is a known problem (Ubuntu based?) and until problem is solved?

Well thanks again for answering and solve this  ;D
I won't let an old, but fully functional computer die just because some company tell me that they won't make no more security updates to their OS. Thanks Linux :)

Ok - I experienced something weird now.

The install process - the window that hangs since the whole today I figured I didn't want to wait for it any longer, so I right clicked at task bar (if that is what you call it), right clicked and choose Close window.

And all of a sudden - there is the dialog box saying Installation complete. What gives?

Ok, assuming installation process is ok - should I trust that installation is really done well now?

[edit]
The dialog box "Installation complete" two buttons continue testing and reboot is both disabled.
Also - the mouse cursor show busy wneh hovering over the dialog box. That make me beleive that installation might have not gone well - I'll try to force close the dialog box and reboot and see what happens.

[edit 2]
Restarted now: Result - Installation failed.

Getting this message at boot:
Code: [Select]
error: no such partition
Entering rescue mode...
grub resque

Hope you guys manage to fix this bug because Linux Lite really seem to be a nice distro to choose - once it work.

Hi.

This problem happens to me too when trying to install Linux Lite 3.6 64 bit to an Dell Latitude D620.

Why is the thread marked SOLVED when there is no solution?

What I have done prior and during install after Live session:
  • ten minutes using Memtest
  • Changed to Norwegian keyboard layout (The US keyboard at pos. 2 in the list)
  • Plugged in a external USB disk and used rsync to backup some local files to the usb drive.
  • Might or might not use Firefox (cannot remember now)
Installation went like this
  • Install type: Something else
  • Encrypt /home partition
  • Checked True on the checkboxes that ask to install extra updates and drivers while install
  • Partition using separate partitions for /boot / /var /tmp /home swap space and one larger partition at end. Have installed several distos this way never got any problem related to installer.

Are you selecting any encrypt options during installation?

I am trying to get 3.6 installed on an older Athlon vintage around 2004--32 bit. It's a homebuilt. The primary IDE channel seems to be broken, so the installation drive is hooked up to a promise card. The computer then recognizes it has a hard drive to install the OS.

In any case the install goes along fine until it hit creating user and then it stops repeatedly. If I bail out at that point, it won't boot up.  I am guessing that after "creating user" it puts on the boot loader.

So, does anyone know how I get out of this stall? I also tried installing Linux LXLE and the same thing happens with that. I like Linux Lite the best though.

RSVP if you have any ideas. My web connection is fine. It is a wired connection, and the indicator on the screen says it is running OK.
