Hi TheDead,
may I bother you a last time?
As a total newbee I feel like someone with sunglasses on and trying to get orientation in the fog!
I have now installed Linux lite 3.8 with the expected crash when the basic structure is written to disk.
I finally found my way to the /var/log directory and extracted some info out of Syslog and the casper-log.
No idea, if those logs reflect the situation when the installation crashed. There is another directory called install - but empty!
Can you have a look at the files and let me know, if there is something relevant to the crash to look at? Or tell me, which log to look at?

I really wonder, why the i386 software is no longer working on old machines. I'm sure, they worked once!! What happened to it that nowadays
nothing seem to work anymore!? Hard to understand!
Well , as I said before - my last try to bother you!
Thanks in advance!
HansG.

Well, too sad to know that 32-bit is runing out!
Anyways, I would love to find out, why my approaches to install
linux-lite always crashes, when it comes to copy the basic system!?
The writing in the window tells me - if I close the window, I could create a sort of "error-log" ??!!
Honestly speaking, I can't find anything that looks like that
I guess, I have to define an error-log before I start to install the software on disk??
Would it be possible to ask you for a hint, where to find something written about error logs?
Just want to find out, if it is something hardware-related with my Dell Latitude D620, that I use to test linux-lite on (unsuccessful so far :57:)!
Best Regards
HansG.

Indeed.
From 4.x, only 64 bits.
32 bits distros are getting quite rare.

On a side note, I also have a D620. I think I had to install Windows 10, 1507, 32 bits.
I think there is no official graphics driver though. It's in the closet somewhere. ;)

That means there is no newer 32-bit support anymore?
Have tried linuxlite 3.8 - same problem with languages!
Sad!

Hi!

Linux Lite 1 is not supported anymore. Only 4.x and 5.x .
Changing language I guess will only work on those.

Hi experts,
in case of language support I (as a pretty newbee to linux...) have a problem that drives me crazy for a couple of days now:
I can easily install linux lite (1.0.6) on a Dell latitute D620. After install on disk, only english is available as a language! All my attempts to add German (de) failed.
When I try to install it through tty, it tries to fetch the information from a place called "E:", which seems to be the USB-Stick I used to install Linux lite. Putting the Stick in again doesn't help!
I tried as /root the following command in tty:

sudo apt-get install language-pack de

Response:

Reading package lists ... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package language-support-de

I have a good connection to the Internet through cable - nothing seems to work for me!
If you need more info - let me know!!
Is there a good soul out there to help me?
Best Regards
HansG.

Many thanks Valtam, meanwhile I found my mistake. In the window - Language Settings - Installed Languages I deleted the Language 'English'. I made this to be sure - but this was wrong. After this the language of the System Menu was in German. Many Thanks Olaf

Hello olafbiker, during install just choose US settings. After a fresh install, use these more detailed instructions - https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/install.html#language

Hello Valtam,
I installed Linux Lite 2.0 in my VirtualBox. It is a very nice distro. But I have the Problem to change the language to German.  I followed your Instruction - but it didn't work. Your pictures are showing the german menu.
But at me it is still english. On my PC I use different distros - openSuSE, Ubuntu, Linuxmint etc. Everywhere it was possible to change the language. But with Linux Lite it  is a problem.
I would like to install Linux Lite on a Laptop of a friend - but completely in german.
Many thanks for your help and greetings olafbiker

If you select your language during the installation of Linux Lite for example German, it will display the install dialog as German.
As soon as you boot into your first desktop, menus etc will still be in English. To complete your language installation do the following:

  • Menu, Install Updates
  • Menu, Settings, Language Support
  • You will be prompted to 'Install' some additional translations, select Install and enter your password. This may take a while as it has to download language packs for programs like Gimp, Thunderbird and LibreOffice.
  • Next, drag your language to the top of the list on the Language tab, click on the Apply System Wide button.
  • When that has finished logout and then login again. Voila! Language Support installed.
