Hi Jerry,

In the end didn't need to get online.

*  Used SeaTools from Seagate to overwrite the hard drive with 0s.
*  Rebooted
*  Linux Lite loaded without further problems

I can only assume there was some residual elements from the old Windows XP OS which conflicted in some way with the Linux install.

The clean install worked.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Pat

Try with an Internet connection.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for your response.

As you suggested I'm leaving the default language as is (English) clicking through to second set of options (3rd party software) leaving them blank - clicking Continue and entering stall mode.

Is there anything else you can suggest?

Pat

PS - the update option is greyed out - at this point there is no internet connection

Try leaving the default languages selected (and all other default options leave as is). That can sometimes work.

Hi,
I'm new to Linux so hope I'm in the right place for advice.

I have an old - circa 2002 - Dell Optiplex GX50 with Windows XP Professional which I'm trying to load Linux Lite 3.8 on to.

I've managed to boot into the downloaded ISO and moving forward with the install.

I get to the desktop and click through on the Install Linux Lite icon

I now progress as far as the Install screen,
* Choose my language - Ccntinue to the next screen where I'm
* Offered options to download updates whilst installing Linux and also to install third party software - * I leave both blank and click Continue

Now the problem emerges - a progress wheel appears and appears to show activity but nothing happens - I've let the install programme continue running overnight but no success - the wheel keeps turning but goes nowhere.

This is now the third time my progress has halted at this stage.

I would welcome any and all advice, guidance and helpful hints.

Pat
