Read here https://itsfoss.com/install-fedora-in-virtualbox/ though it explains how to install fedora in VBvox, it also deals with "accessing the Shared folder,  clipboard and drag-&-drop sharing" features as well as other stuff.

Hope this helps! :)
@Moltke: thanks a lot, I will certainly look into it tomorrow, as soon as I can get around to it.

@TheDead: After testing, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether it's 16 or 128Mb. And I don't intend to use the VM for 3D stuff.

Anyway, even if the GUI is much nicer, I'm really stuck trying to install the VBoxGuestAdditions (from the iso CD image downloaded in the Mac), which I think I remember are necessary for the guest and the host to swing properly together. It ends up with some errors that I don't understand — attaching the terminal-like result as a zipped screenshot, as I'm not able to put it on the clipboard and as the forum here doesn't seem to accept jpegs.

I then came across this thread on MacRumors [https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/installing-guest-additions-in-lubuntu-virtualbox.2201426/], same case it seems, but after downloading VirtualBox 4.3.40's Extension Pack [http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.3.40/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.40-110317a.vbox-extpack] from here [https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds_4_3] which gave me “An error has occurred” (instead of the original poster's “Archive type not supported”). If I'm not mistaken, it seems that Linux doesn't quite know what to do with a “vbox-extpack” file.

Confirming: VB v.6.xx requires Mac OS 9, and v.5.xx OS 8.

Meanwhile, and apologies for only acknowledging now, I did manage to get it installed after battling during the whole of yesterday. And as back when I got Ubuntu running, then, years later, Lubuntu, I have no idea why it decided to start up at last. There are just too many settings in VB that I don't understand.

Internet connection, as well as mouse and keyboard functionality, were immediate, and Linux Lite's GUI is definitely a boon in comparison to (L)Ubuntu. The battling isn't over yet, still quite a bit of stuff to set up, in particular accessing the Shared folder, which I have no idea how to do. And figuring out clipboard and drag-&-drop sharing with the Mac OS.

@TheDead: I had been using no more than 16Mb Video Memory for Lubuntu, is there a particular reason to use as much as 128Mb? I'm not sure, but it seems to make it boot up a bit slower than my Lubuntu VM.

Not really, I always use 128MB. Video cards have had at least 128MB for the last decade.
Usually for 3D stuff, you could use 4-16MB if only 2D, depending on resolution.

Hi,

I use VirtualBox 6. Not on Mac but should be compatible since, well, it's in VM.
I use 1536MB RAM (1.5G). 2-core Processor. ICH9 Chipset. 128MB video. 3D acceleration ON. VMSVGA. Intel HD Audio. USB3.

Currently using Lubuntu 18.10 as a 21Gb VM in VirtualBox 4.3.40, which I think is the last version to run in Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (16Gb RAM). Trying to install Linux Lite for the sake of two Linux-only small applications, but so far I've only managed to have it crash as soon as it launches. I cannot copy and paste the resulting error code, but I'll post a screenshot if needed (80Kb).

So, is it possible to run Linux Lite under those conditions? If yes, are the clipboards and the drag-and-drop functions fully bi-directional (only one way clipboard is working between Lubuntu and MacOS). And: what are the basic start-up settings to get it running?

Note that I have no understanding of terminal code (another reasons for wanting to find a replacement for Lubuntu.)
