First time installing Linux Lite alongside Windows 10. Everything goes well until I reboot then it boots directly Windows 10. I have disabled SecureBoot and changed boot to allow both legacy and UEFI. When I installed Linux Lite, I picked /dev/sda1 as the boot device. I switched Windows Boot Manager to the bottom of the options to choose boot from but that didn't work. I don't see an 'ubuntu' option when I sue bcdedit. I tried EasyBCD 2.4 to try and repair my boot but it seems that it's a commercial product now. I'm stuck. Can you help me move a little? Cheers

Let's start with the ISO. What is the file name of the download you have for Linux Lite?

... I have disabled SecureBoot and changed boot to allow both legacy and UEFI....
In addition to @Jerry question...
Its typically EITHER not both.
If Windows is installed to UEFI you are booting to UEFI (Windows Only) Changing BIOS to Legacy and installing LL (which is a correct option) you need to stay in Legacy mode to boot to LL (windows won't... )
In this case you need to switch bios format to boot the appropriate OS...
OR
If you want both Wins and LL to boot from the same (UEFI) use the UEFI installer....
*depending on the name you give Jerry we'll know :)
Should you decide -- the UEFI installer can be found here:

*Yes 4.2 - it will upgrade to 4.8

It's "linux-lite-4.8-64bit"
Both is just what shows when I access the boot menu, it gives priority to Legacy but even if I choose that option, it won't show the grub menu. If I pick Legacy only, it won't boot.
I'll check the UEFI installer.
thanks to both!

Unfortunately I got the same results. I downloaded Linux Lite 4.2 with support for UEFI, I deleted the volumes where I had installed LL and I did a complete re-install. Upon reboot, it keeps booting to Windows. As before if I pick Boot Legacy Only, it won't boot. :(

@Patomas
Do you see a Windows Boot Manager? when booting?
In the BIOS boot order is Ubuntu listed?
-
@firenice03, it would be negative for both questions, I neither see a Windows Boot Manager nor I can see ubuntu listed in the boot order.

What is your partition set up for Linux Lite and where are you loading Grub to in the installer?

With Secure Boot and UEFI enabled, what is the boot order in the BIOS?

I have tried 2 things so far: adding GRUB to the Windows Boot Loader partition and adding it to /dev/sda1 (root). Boot order has Windows Boot Loader a the bottom. ubuntu option is nowhere to be found. I'm going to to place grub on the bios partition next and enable legacy boot only and see if that works

Maybe a screenshot of your disk partitions - may help in where to place it/what may be going on. Assuming the same disk... Thought it should find it...
Names - Sizes etc etc...
Assuming during install you chose "Alongside Windows".. Maybe trying "Something Else" - you'll make your partitions - but you may still them, you'll reformat and reuse.
Remember to label root (/) swap home or others you've created.. If you go this route.
In win10 you'll want to turn off fastboot --- although I don't think this is why you don't see "ubuntu" ..
Are we sure the installer has failed right at the end??? - Do you get a notice that it installed successfully?
just thinking
