I know nothing about the programs you listed, but highlighted in blue (below) the home files that may be associated with the use of one or more of them.  (Those are my guesses -- I'm not sure whether or not some are associated.)

Having said that, based on what you said it definitely sounds like you had to do more than normal tweeking to get the programs to work and had to make changes in other areas of the file system.  Therefore I recommend you do not upgrade to LL 3 until you can retrace the steps you took before and copy all of the necessary files that you made or made changes to.

What I and others do is keep a set of detailed notes to refer to when re-installing or upgrading, especially for things that needed special instructions to implement in the first place.  If you don't already do that, you might want to start.  A good note keeping program called Cherrytree is an excellent way to keep track of things like that, as well as keeping notes on just about anything else.  Check it out if you don't already use it.

Ok gold_finger

ax25 is been downloaded  newer ver and installed. I will say  it is installed like from Synaptic .
bbs  is been download it and installed manually and Jnos.In order to make the  bbs to talk to radio and internet at the same time.we had to make some files in to network , run, and   etc  folders   and iface  and route config files.
The folders im looking for they are not in the Home hidden folders.

any way  here is the output:

Like LL-user said, the config files for those programs should be in your home.  They will be hidden files or directories under /home/$USER; or will be in the hidden ".config" folder in your home (/home/$USER/.config).

Open the file manager and use key combo <CTRL>+h to toggle viewing hidden files on/off.  Then look for files/folders for the programs you need.

If still not sure, post back with:
  • Exact names (spelled correctly) of each program you're talking about
  • Tell us how you installed each of them (eg. Synaptic Package Manager, with a terminal command, by adding a ppa, downloaded file from a website, etc.)
  • Then run the following command in a terminal and copy/paste the result back here for us to look at:
Code: [Select]
ls -la {~,~/.config}

Use the instructions on this post for copy/pasting terminal output into your reply.

OK, I see.

The configuration of your programs, as long as done by the user, is still expected to be saved in the users home folder.
General settings/configurations, specifically system wide,  are usually stored in /etc/
I'm positive that you can take over the old configuration for your programs, especially if you run the same version. The installation of your program itself is a different story of course.

Do you know whether these programs are found in the repositories? Or have you got installation packages on hand?

For the LL settings yes the home folder works fine. But the programs i use for IP/TCP  ham-radio packet ax25  are not in home folder .And they need to be re-install again and setup to be able to talk to internet and to ax25.And there is the problem witch i do not know how, because some other peep set it up  for me some time ago.
Well as long  those programs are working , i will leave it the way it is till the pc go dead lol..
Thanks any way.

Hi arxontas,

As you don't have a separate home partition there is no use in following the video!

You need to backup your data/home folder, then wipe everything and install a system from scratch. Afterwards you can restore your data/home folder.

The video can assist you in how to manually partition your hard disk to get a separate home partition though.

If you need more specific/detailed support don't hesitate to post again. Provide as much detailed information as possible, i.e. describe the challenge you're facing, error message you're getting, etc. Then support is much easier and more likely :)

Hope that helps :)

If you did not create a separate /home partition, then you will need to back up everything from your home directory, including the hidden files.  Then reinstall Linux Lite 2.8 and the restore your backup.

If you did create a separate /home partition, just reinstall as before, but do not format your /home partition.
