Stuff that goes along with...
Set a Supervisor password and/or Update BIOS?? To enable trust fields..

Supervisor password was set a few weeks ago set. I had to do that to enable/disable Secure Boot.

I also updated the Bios last week. It came with 1.07 version, I updated it to the most recent 1.18.

They supposedly resolve some issue with "ELinux OS" (is that support for Linux?) in ver 1.12. Which I assume is included in ver 1.18.

This is my laptop's driver/bios page:

Screenshot #5... Boot Order #8 says LINUX...
Move that to priority 1.. What happens??

That is the USB with the live LL 4.2 version. No idea why automatically moves to #8. I use F12 (boot menu) to boot the USB anyways.

One last thing to try... Not wanting to step on @Jerry toes  ;) ;)

It's been a head scratcher and maybe a long shot..

After looking at the screen shots again... The Acer is using InsydeH2O Bios and started searching, looks like you may have to enable "Trusted EFI Booting".. Telling EFI its ok to boot LL/Ubuntu

Following along with this link --
https://itsfoss.com/no-bootable-device-found-ubuntu/

Perhaps its something and will get us there...

+1 more for UEFI Hair Pulling

Thank you. I already contacted Jerry to see what can be done.

I am affraid my Bios settings does not have that Uefi "trusted" option. These are all my Bios settings:

Btw: I already set a supervised password (it was necessary in order to disable/enable Secure Boot)

I can do the install for you if you like. Just PM when you are ready. Please have the 4.2 UEFI version on a USB if you're interested and make sure Secure Boot and UEFi are BOTH ENABLED in the Bios.

@firenice03 Thank you very much, I was able to format the disk properly with the Something Else option. Didn't know how to set that up until now.

Prior to this I also used gparted to format the disk. And I before that I went as extreme as use "dban" to completely erase the disk (had to wait around 4 hrs to complete).

However, the installation of LL still won't boot.

I installed the same ISO on another PC we have at the office.

Hardware is as follows:

Core i5 2300
4GB Ram
1TB HDD WD
MB Gigabyte H61 (Bios set UEFI mode)

LL worked perfectly.

So, I swaped the WD HD and used my laptop's Toshiba HD to make the (offline) installation. It worked and booted perfectly on the PC, so I moved the Toshiba HD back to my laptop, and guess what ? It won't boot there, shows "No bootable device".

And the Bios DOES recognize there is a Toshiba HDD installed on the laptop, but won't boot with the LL OS.

I installled Windows back again on that Toshiba HD, and it boots normally.

At this point I just have to think there is some sort of code in the Bios that simply blocks the booting file from different OS's. This sucks and I really hate Acer for doing this.

I'll give it a couple days googling, maybe there is a guy out there who was able to install a distro on his UEFI-Windows only Laptop, but I am just about to give up.

Thank you all for your help!

Screenshots of Something Else...

With no partition set up - you'll receive an error..

Set the partition (Right Click add) - I used all the space, format to ext4 and mount point "/" (there is a drop down for each field)

What it should look like after the above prior to clicking install, ... Device for boot loader I left as default /dev/sda

Although not sure why the Erase and install didnt work for you right off....

Also, looking at your screen shot in the previous of the same (gparted)
Your /sda partition, disk /sda1 is a 1TB drive with 16GB in use... This disk will need to be formated. (you will erase the disk by doing so)

It may be best to delete /sda1 and start over - Perhaps from the Live environment, open gparted (can search menu)

Right Click /sda1 and delete.. (you will erase the disk by doing so) Click the Check Mark Icon in the tool bar to accept

Then you can launch the installer (Something else to follow) -- Right Click the unallocated, select Create then mirror my 2nd screenshot (size should default)

When you get the no bootable device...
Have you double checked BIOS boot order.. It may be not be pointing to LL/ubuntu

I'll see if I can grab some screenshots later this evening...

Added thoughts - might be a reach...
- How are you installing by chance - USB or DVD ...
- How was the media created? What system OS and tool used ...
- Have ave you checked the checksum - can be done by dragging the downloaded ISO onto "Drop File Here" on the LL Download page then confirm the checksum is the same...

Thanks for the help

Not giving up, so I've been trying different settings but 9/10 it gets stuck (freezes) when Installing "grub2", and 1/10 it installs but shows no bootable.

The BIOS is poor with options. I cleared the TPM in the Bios, disable/enabled it. Can't configure UEFI, but can enable/disable Secure Boot.

I am using a wired connection, but still freezes at the grub installation.

The only way the installation goes through without freezing (but shows no bootable device at the end) is when I have Secure Boot Enable, and choose NOT to connect to Internet.

I really don't know how to configure the disk/partitions in the "Something else" option. I keep using erase disk and Install Linux, as It configures automatically. If anyone can guide with this, It would be really appreciated.

The Something Else - looks ok, the boot loader on /sda and LL on /sda1
- Maybe the only thing, mark /sda1 as root "/" (the label) - this shouldn't be affecting but may not hurt.

Also if you can connect to the internet by a wired connection.
- Do a default install, don't select to install updates/drivers/codecs, use the blank defaults (you can install any/all after install).

Once it installs, you should have "ubuntu" listed in the boot order (make this primary, if not)

You booted the laptop and did choose start linux lite. Then removed all the partitions on the drive, formatted it to ext4 and then installed LL while you were in the live session and used the default settings during the setup. If you boot the laptop and press f12 and select the harddrive to boot from what happens then? What looks the screen like when you press f12

Yes, I followed all those steps, But when I press F12 after reboot, It would only show the USB, not the HDD.

However, I haven't tried installing LL with the "something else" option, because I really don't know what to do there, sorry. I am just choosing to do a clean install, "erase disk and Install LL".

This is the "something else" screen:

Also, when I'm installing the SO on the Live LL enviroment, and mark the download WIFI and other drivers, it would get stuck on grub2, specifically when copying the "x86_64-efi plataform"

Make sure the Windows Boot Manager IS NOT first in the Boot order in the BIOS (picture 3 in the #4 reply here).

The new Bios boot order, without Windows, is as follows:
