Getting Namespace lookup failure while installing LL 4.0
Please post the error message here
(there are many different namespaces)
-
I've now added the screenshot
-
So, when does this happen? While installing (the screenshot does not support that) or after the installation?
Can you boot the installation CD / USB ?
-
This is while installing, Yes I can boot from the pen drive and right when I select "start linux lite" option it gives me this error
-
Ok, try this:
When you get the Menu, press 'e' to edit the boot parameters.
Then find the row which begins with the word 'linux'. Then navigate (using the arrow keys) to
go to that line. Then press End key to go to the end of that line or navigate there using the arrow keys.
Finally append the text 'acpi=off' to the end of the line and press Ctrl+x to boot
-
No I do not get the grub option, so there's no "press e to edit" option, it's right after booting from the installation media (Pen Drive)
I tried to press "tab to edit" and add acpi=off to that line.still the same issue
-
Oh yes, this GRUB version seems to be different - it is the TAB key instead of 'e'.
Can you disable ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power) from BIOS?
-
No option to disable acpi in BIOS
-
When you add the boot parameter acpi=off you must be very careful.
The text must be in the same line where the 'linux' entry is. And you must have exactly ONE space between the last
character and the text acpi=off
Also, there must not be anything else after the acpi=off text - not even a space character.
Example:
linux /boot/vmlinuz.... bla bla bla quiet splash acpi=off
-
Yeah, It progressed a little bit, now stuck at this screen
-
Ok, looks better but you may need to give some additional boot parameters.
Please try first 'Safe Mode' and add the acpi=off there too..
-
Thanks a lot man!!!
It worked in safe mode!
Booted into LL 4.0.
Trying to install, But I guess I'll get similar error while booting after installation.
Let's see how it goes after the installation.
-
Good to hear that man!
Don't worry about it, you can disable the acpi when you have installed.
Let it install but don't reboot yet!
Let me know when it's finished and I'll tell you what to do next...
-
Yeah, it got installed asking for a reboot.
I'm waiting...
-
Ok, great!
Don't reboot yet.
Open a console and command
dmesg | less
There is a line in the start that begins with the words 'Command line'.
Please copy the whole line and post it here
-
Replying from the LL 4.0 itself ;D ;D
Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/custom.seed boot=casper xforcevesa nomodeset initrd=/casper/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=1048576 root=/dev/ram rw noapic noapci nosplash irqpoll --acpi=off
-
Cool :)
Now - using the console again - command:
mount | grep /dev/sd
Please post output
-
/dev/sdc1 on /cdrom type vfat (ro,noatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro)
-
Ok, you must mount the hard drives too, otherwise you must boot the first boot using the grub editing again..
Please command:
gdisk /dev/sda
then press 'p' followed by ENTER and copy the lines here
(after 'p' you may press 'q' followed by ENTER to exit gdisk)
-
Command (? for help): p
Disk /dev/sda: 234455040 sectors, 111.8 GiB
Model: WDC WDS120G2G0B-
Sector size (logical/physical): 512/512 bytes

Partition table holds up to 128 entries
Main partition table begins at sector 2 and ends at sector 33
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 234455006
Partitions will be aligned on 2-sector boundaries
Total free space is 4348 sectors (2.1 MiB)

2 32768 174112767 83.0 GiB 0700 Basic data partition
3 174112768 234450658 28.8 GiB 0700 Basic data partition
I have 1 SSD sda and 1 HDD sdb
sda has 3 partitions sda1, sda2 and sda3.
LL 4.0 is installed on sda3 the partition with 28.8GB space
-
Ok, next command
sudo su
Then:
mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
Then:
cp -f /mnt/etc/default/grub /etc/default
nano /etc/default/grub
There is a line like 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="bla bla bla..."
Append the words 'noapic noapci nosplash acpi=off' to the end inside the quotes in case
they are not there yet.
Then press 'Ctrl+o' and 'Ctrl+x'
Then command (still in the same console)
grub-mkconfig -o /mnt/boot/grub/grub.cfg; sleep 5; sync
cp -f /etc/default/grub /mnt/etc/default; sync
umount /mnt
Now reboot and let's hope it works without more editing - let's see :)
-
Forget my previous post. Just reboot, then choose the 'Safe mode' and apply the acpi=off there.
When you are in the actual LL, edit the file (as root) /etc/default/grub
and add the parameters which I suggested in the previous post into it. Save it and run 'update-grub' as root.
If everything goes fine, you don't need to apply safe mode or edit grub any more...
Let me know how it went ;)
-
Thanks a lot kpanic for helping me out.
I did got a few minor issues like brightness and wifi were not working but I managed to fix those things.
Everything went fine after that, booted into LL 4.0 did some customisation to my liking and everything seems to be smooth now.
Thanks.
